VESTS! Fiance is going to wear gray pants and a gray vest, with no jacket. EVERY vest I look at online has that satin back, since they are usually worn under a jacket. Or I can’t tell from the picture/description. Do they not make vests with the real material over the whole thing?? We live in a rural area, so it’s at least an hour (or two) drive to the closest “city” where he can try things on. Even when we go there, the stores all have only satin-backed vests! What the heck?! It’s starting to get down to the wire here!

@Pumpkin_Bee: If not satin, which type of material are you looking for??

@Sweetescape1976: See how you can see the vertical line where the front divides from the back? I just want the front and back to be the same material!

Hm, we’re doing vests only, but we weren’t concerned about the satin back. We happened to pick one that has a non-contrasting color in the back. Would that maybe work? I mean in this picture, the front is medium grey, whereas the back is white or very light gray. Say if you found one where the back is more medium grey, would that be a compromise?

@PumpkinCheesecake: If we absolutely can’t find one with the full back, I guess we will have to. Do they really not make vests like that? Fiance really really doesn’t like the satin back 🙁

@Pumpkin_Bee: Ahhh, gotcha. But, I’ve never seen a vest that doesn’t have satin in the back, but lemme see if I can do some digging. 🙂 What if the back was the same color as the front? That way it doesn’t contrast as much.

Just a thought, if you wind up with a satin-backed vest… he is probably going to be sweating, and at least the satin won’t show that as much as fabric would!

@julies1949: I have found that most websites won’t show you pictures of the back… maybe for this reason? 🙁

i’m totally with you on this. we want the groomsmen to wear vests. i think the difference is the satin back are formal vests that are generally part of a three piece suit… but vests with the same continuous fabric MUST exist… people wear them all the time! it’s just a matter of finding them… try H&M and Express. I’m pretty sure Express has them on their website and i THINK the back wasn’t satin.
Good luck and keep us posted because I will need these too at some point!

I’m not a huge fan of the satin back, but that’s what we ended up with. Trust me, it’s much better than the freaking halter top ones that most places have. : At least the satin on ours is the same color as the fabric.

Ours are from Express and all vests I saw there had a satin back.
