Two thoughts/suggestions:

1) ask jules1949. That Bee can find *anything*!

2) find a seamstress or tailor in your area and look into having something custom-made.

Since you seem to have something very specific (and fairly unusual) in mind, the custom route might really be your best bet. Do you have a picture you can post to help other Bees zero in on what you want? Even if you don’t have a picture, if you find a seamstress you could make some sketches to show her, and you would be able to pick out the exact lace and ribbon/button/etc. that you want to go with your dress. It sounds beautiful, by the way!

If you don’t already know of a seamstress, I’d try the yellow pages, craigslist, and especially the grapevine: talk to your female friends, your female relatives, your female friends’ female relatives, your female relatives’ female friends … anyone who’s been married or in a wedding is likely to know of someone who sews and does alterations. I’d also stay away from bridal shop alterations departments and look for someone freelance. There are exceptions, of course, but usually the independent seamstresses can do better work at better prices and they get to keep the full amount you pay them. Better all around.

OH OH I wore a back-fastening lace bolero!

from Tulip bridal

http://www.tulipbridal.com/Off-Shoulder-Alencon-Lace-Bridal-Bolero-Wedding-jacket-shrug-WJ003_p_437.html

and its on sale now for $79!

I love alencon lace and I was nervous about it but it came and it was BEAUTIFUL and high quality and fit perfectly!

There were more on etsy and ebay but they were a little messy and bulky and were actually like $300+ so I took a chance on Tulip and it paid off tremendously!

Maybe you could buy this one and have a seamstress alter it?

Hope that helps!

@vintagefair:  lol how sweet! that bee was meeee! Thanks for remembering me! hehee

@2cats222:  so I was re-reading your description and I can honestly say I’ve never seen or heard of a bolero like it “a v shaped back that fastens at the bottom with a ribbon / single button, and i need it to be longer than the styles that finish just below the bust”

Can you show us a photo? or is this just a wish list you have?

@KimmySumShuga:  I love your lace bolero! Weren’t you nervous about Tulips 3 day return policy though? I wish it were 30 days so I could order it and try it on during a fitting to see how it looks with my dress…Undecided

@BookishBelle:  AWE! Thank you!

Well, to be honest, I wasn’t really nervous about returning it because it was so close to my wedding and I already had my dress at home so if it didn’t work, I literally could put it back in the mail the very next day…

If you want to wait until all your alterations are done, it might work better? I highly doubt they’ll discontinue the bolero or will sell out and the shipping is very quick. Do you know when you’ll pick up your dress from alterations or can you ever just stop by with the accessories to try it back on?

Hello… I am wondering if this off shoulder lace bolero from tulip bridal runs true to size?

I’m kind of in between the medium and the large.

Thanks 🙂

KimmySumShuga:  this is a total shot in the dark, but your bolero is gorgeous and exactly what I’m looking for… I was wondering if you are looking to sell it, by any chance?

Thanks either way, your suggestions are very helpful and I’m off to continue my hunt for a bolero!

bridetobee1:  Awe you’re so very sweet… thank you for your kind words!

Because I love it too and plan to wear it whenever I can in the future, I won’t be selling it… BUT I highly recommend buying it from Tulip! Its absolutely gorgeous in person and is WAY more affordable than others on the market. Plus! You can always sell it after to recoup your out of pocket costs… its a timeless piece that I’m sure you’ll love!

Thanks again and Good luck!!!

mandolina: You look gorgeous!! I love the way that bolero looks with your dress and veil.

I ended up buying this one from Tulip Bridal: http://www.tulipbridal.com/Off-Shoulder-Alencon-Lace-Bridal-Bolero-Wedding-jacket-shrug-WJ017_p_533.html

(This is the Tulip Bridal photo).

Unfortunately it’s a bit more white than my Allure 8862 dress – but I think the ivory would have been too dark, so I think I’m going to keep this one. I’m only wearing it for the ceremony and I’m just going to hope that the color difference isn’t too noticeable! Wedding is next week, so I’ll reply with photos afterwards so other brides have another reference 🙂

KimmySumShuga:  Thanks! I ended up buying my bolero from Tulip Bridal and although it doesn’t perfectly match my dress, I love it! I’m just wondering, what else are you planning to wear it with? I definitely think I’d like to keep it and reuse it but haven’t been able to come up with anything else I own that’s fancy enough for the bolero. 🙂

Hi all – just thought I’d post a photo of my dress with the white bolero I ordered from Tulip Bridal: http://www.tulipbridal.com/Off-Shoulder-Alencon-Lace-Bridal-Bolero-Wedding-jacket-shrug-WJ017_p_533.html

It was too white for my dress, so if I had more time, I think I would have ordered the ivory instead. I don’t think many others noticed, though (I only wore it for the ceremony), and I did get a lot of compliments on the bolero in general.

The dress in the photo is Allure 8862. Hope this helps other brides!
