We’re getting married at 7 pm on a Friday night. The ceremony will only take about 20 minutes and is onsite at the reception location. To help with costs, we’re having a ‘Dessert and Dance Reception’ instead of a full dinner. We will also have hors’ dourves served periodically throughout the night so the guests aren’t only eati ng desserts. Does this sound too cheap and tacky? I got the idea off a wedding website, but my mom thought it was tacky.

I think it sounds like a wonderful idea. I would just be sure to note that on your invitations. We doing a cake and punch with light finger foods. Our ceremony is at 1pm on friday afternoon and reception will begin at 2pm. I am still stuck on whether to serve alcohol or not.

I think it’s a great idea. I agree with breyenswife that you should be sure to put it on the invitations as that’s not too late for a dinner receptions. Other then that it sounds like a really fun friday night out!

That’s actually about what I plan on doing; I figured desserts and appetizers would be a good substitute (esp since we are planning on an afternoon wedding). Just make sure, like these ladies said, to inform your guests that they will not be getting a full dinner, so they can munch ahead of time as needed 🙂
@bryenswife: I can’t decide on alcohol either. I know his family will drink (it’s 5 oclock somewhere:p) but I don’t know if the cost will be worth it for an afternoon reception
