Any bees out there doing a Dessert Bar/Buffet? I love the idea of having dessert options for my guests, but I am curious about how much these things cost? I know there is always the option of DIY’ing it… but I would much rather have it done by a vendor.
Has anyone done this? if so, can you share some pics and how much it was — if you don’t mind! 🙂

@MsDIY: We are most likely doing this. I love the idea of having different dessert options aside from cake.
In LA, The Fry Girl charges about $900 for 2 hours. But I don’t know if there’s anything similar where you’re from. – http://www.thefrygirlinc.com/

We’re in the same boat. We definitely want to do a dessert bar as we aren’t having a cake. We know we’re going to do a candy buffet but that’s separate.
We are actually meeting with Wegman’s this weekend – which sounds crazy but they have these mini desserts that look delicious on their website, so we figured you’d give it a try. And we are also going to try to meet with a big caterer on it too. Not sure what the cost will be but I can try to remember to follow up with you after we meet with them.
Interested to hear what other people have to say on this.

Our engagement party is going to be all desserts so I will let you know how much time and effort goes into our diy dessert bar

its a great idea as what ever you serve people they always want what the person next to them is having, mine was $19.50 per person but im only having my wedding cake now served as dessert as we have to many people not allowed sugar attending, great idea and guest’s love it

Gosh! I’m clearly a new-bee and didn’t subscribe to this so I wasn’t getting any of your helpful responses!
I’ve done a little more research and figured I could off-set some of the expense by having chocolate covered items in addition to desserts. I know not everyone likes chocolate, but I figured not everyone likes cake either, so hey! lol. As of now I’m thinking:
Our small cake for cutting
Chocolate covered Oreos
Chocolate covered pretzels
Mini cupcakes (in different flavors)
Yum! Another plus is that the chocolate-covered items can be purchased in advanced and will still be tasty!
@Dub D… thanks! Funnel cake station sounds amazing, I have never seen that before! I was hoping to have something that could be out throughout the reception similar to how a cake is set out on display:) I think it’s so appetizing to see all the mini treats but if it is more cost-effective to go the route of having a vendor set it up for a specific amount of time I will definitely look into it!
@Kate02121 how was your visit with Wegman’s? That doesn’t sound crazy to me at all! I actually contemplated Starbucks! Have you seen their petit desserts? They taste as good as they look. I am exploring all options here so that doesn’t seem crazy at all!
@impatientlypatient – love that idea! Let me know how it goes!
@suzieg80 – 19.50 is very pricey so I would be going the cake-only route too if it cost anywhere near that much for our desserts:)

@MsDIY: Wegmans was seriously awesome. They have these amazing mousse shooters (looks like you are looking for them), chocolate dome cakes, fruit tarts, and a few other things. We’re definitely going with them, the only negative is that they don’t offer bulk discounts…their prices are reasonable though so we are ok with it.
Your buffet sounds amazing by the way.

@kate02121 – Thanks for following-up! Wegmans sounds awesome! I don’t think there are any close to where our venue is though:/ Are they going to deliver the goodies to the venue? I am just trying to figure out who will do the set-up for our buffet if we do purchase all the desserts ourselves… right now I’m leaning towards my DOC or caterer… 🙂

@MsDIY: Yea that’s one of the harder parts of DIYing this – is getting it there and set up. Ours is about 10 minutes from our venue which is why we even looked. I thought they had a delivery/courier service available at an additional cost but I don’t remember.
