Last night we had our final selections for menu and other options at the Reception Hall (which has it’s own catering). We had agreed before that we’d have our wedding cake, plus an ice cream bar. C’mon, who wouldn’t love to make their own sundae at a Mid-July wedding? I thought these would be nice complementary desserts and a little unique.
Well, the manager we were working with said two fateful words that hooked Fiance so fast it was scary: Chocolate Fountain.
(when listing the dipping items Fiance was all Jerry McGuire, “You had me at ‘marshmellows’!”)
Now, I had two first reactions simultaneously-
1. Ha ha, funny, yeah we don’t need one of those, it’s a waste. and
2. Wow, how cool would that be? I’ve never actually seen one at a wedding before! Jennifer didn’t have a chocolate fountain! (I’ve become increasingly worried that my wedding will be too close a carbon copy of my twin sister’s 3 years ago.)
Yes, it’s not the most necessary thing in the world (or at a wedding, for that matter). But would you be excited/impressed by a chocolate fountain?

I would be excited, I love chocolate fountains/chocolate fondue! Make sure you get some fresh coconut chunks if you do it, they are the best for dipping!!

Love the idea!!! But it is July, and ice cream is a great idea as well.

I’m not a big fan of chocolate fountains. They’re interesting and all but because I’m a huge germaphobe, the idea sketches me out. I’ve been to a couple of events that had had the fountain and unfortunately witnessed a couple of guests and it goes without saying, children, who have done some pretty yucky things with the fountain. But then again that’s me.
If you and your fiance like it (and he seems to love it then I say, go for it! In the long run, you should really only be concerned with amusing yourselves…it’s your wedding 🙂

@kate02121: Just FYI, we will be having both now, so we will both be happy. 🙂
We also bought take-home cake boxes so people can have fondue and/or ice cream at the reception and save the actual wedding cake for later. (Of course, everyone’s welcome to have all three while there!)

I can’t even have chocolate, but I still love seeing them at weddings b/c all the guests always go crazy for it.

I posted this as a mystery quiz on my facebook status this morning (cause I was excited but didn’t want to give it away):
“OMG at my wedding we’ll be having * ********* ********!” (“a chocolate fountain”, obviously)
Some of the guesses included a bouncy house and a jambalaya fountain. My friends are too much! Sorry, just had to share that. I laughed so hard, but my Fiance has cajun roots, to he’d probably actually consider a jambalaya fountain too! 🙂
