Hello Bees, I need some help.We have decided ,because of a tight budget,to have a dessert only reception. I love the idea but I am not sure how the timeline should go.We are haveing a vow renewal so there won’t be the garter or bouquet toss, but we will be having a first dance, cake cutting and toast. So far the only thing I know it that my neice and my hubby’s Uncle will be performing together right after the recessional (the ceremony and reception are in the same place) and after that I am lost 🙁 Any advice??

- Wedding: January 2013 - Harbourfront Grand Hall
All that sounds good, are you having a DJ?
You could do any other dances (anniversary dance, maybe) and then open the dance floor to everyone.
Just make sure your reception isn’t during a meal time!

- Vow Renewal Ceremony
- Cocktail Hour / Photos (If you’re doing this)
- First Dance immediately after
- Cut the cake right after dance (so people can start eating!)
- Open dancing / rest of dessers put out
And I agree with PP – please make sure you don’t start the event during a meal time. Make sure people know they should have eaten beforehand!

How many people? Will Uncle and neice be performing during the ceremony? Are they in the same exact room or will the ceremony be in one place, then you walk 20-100ft and then you have the reception? Will you have a bar set up or just hand out champagne right before the toast? I would have some non-dessert finger food out as they walk into the room– cheese& crackers, veggies and dip, fruit.
If you are in the same exact location, then have Uncle/neice perform during the ceremony. If ceremony and reception will be in a different room, and people will use their regular drink for the toast, then do:
2:30 While guest walk to the recpetion area, you and new Darling Husband take 10 mins alone somewhere
2:40 You get announced and do cake cutting (so it can get wheeled off to be cut and plated)
2:50 Walk around greeting people. This gives guests time to get their drinks and nosh on the finger foods.
3:10 Uncle and Neice perform (might need to push later depending on the # of guests)
3:20 First Dance
3:30 Put out cake and desserts

@KoiKove: Thank you so much KoiKove!!
The ceremony and reception will be in the same room, the guest will actuall be ywatching the ceremony from thier tables.I was planning on have my neice and Uncle perform after we complete the recession to get rid of the “now what do we do??” awkwardness of our guest 😀 We will be having about 40 guest.
