- Wedding: December 2012
One of the first things I did when I started planning my wedding was pick a bridesmaid dress. I know that’s kinda backwards, but it was something we could do together (he couldn’t come with me to shop for wedding dresses), but we still got to go to bridal stores and actually feel like we were getting married. I knew what color scheme I wanted, and I had this specific shade of light green in mind that started to seem like it didn’t exist. I wanted short dresses, even though it’s a winter wedding (crazy, and my girls are going to hate me), but not strapless or anything else super summery.
Finally we happened upon Dessy, who carries the most perfect shade of celadon. And we found a dress that we both agreed on, would compliment the most shapes (I’ve got a crazy variety among my 4 girls), and fit all the criteria.
I was totally satisfied.
But then I picked out my wedding dress.
And now I realize why people usually pick the dress first and then the bridesmaid dresses. I kept trying to convince myself that it didn’t matter, and that I loved both dresses and no one cares if the bridesmaid’s dresses go along with the wedding dress.
But then I happened upon this beautiful dress in a bridal magazine.
It is also from Dessy, so I’m surprised I hadn’t seen in when I picked the first dress. It still comes in celadon (the little swatch in the bottom right corner), but it’s got a lace overlay. It’s a very similar style to the first one, and still has all the things I loved about it, but I feel like it goes with my dress so much more because of the lace.
My only concern is that the lace color is called “oyster.” My dress is ivory, the guys are wearing ivory tuxedos, and there is absolutely no gray at all involved in my wedding. The little swatch with the celadon underneath looks perfect, but when I zoom in on the dress on the model, especially the back (not pictured) where you just see lace and skin, it looks very gray.
Now long-winded me is finally getting to the question! Has anyone ever ordered this dress? Is the oyster lace obviously gray or does it kind of look ivory or white? If it’s gray I’m definitely going to stick to my first choice. If it’s ivory I’m choosing the second.
Also, Bees, which one is your favorite? What’s your opinion? Does it matter if the bridesmaid dresses don’t go with the wedding dress? Which one do you think I should pick?
