I got legally married two months before our wedding. We did not exchange rings because we didn’t consider that to be our “real” wedding. On our flight we put the rings in my carry-on backpack and didn’t think twice about it. It stayed within our sight the whole time. If you’re not comfortable with that, what about putting them on a chain around your neck?

LyndaButterfly:  Agree with caritas:  I put our wedding bands on my necklace chain while travelling to our destination wedding. I felt safer having it on my person, rather than packed away in a bag somewhere.

I’m taking our rings in my carry on. Like the other bees, we will not be exchanging the rings until the ceremony. We will be getting married a week before we leave, and are not planning on doing anything except getting our ducks in a row. To me, the real wedding and marriage takes place during our ceremony.

LyndaButterfly:  Yeah, that makes sense. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable/assured is what you should do.

are you marrying in a place where it is not legal?  Our wedding in Jamaica is considered legal in the US  so our wedding date will be the real thing…we just have to wait the 2-3 months for the certificate to come in after the wedding then we will have to file it in the US.

We were legally married 12 days before our Destination Wedding.  We waited to exchange and wear our rings until our actual ceremony. It we hadn’t waited I would have felt like what is the point of this expensive wedding?

Edit: We did wear our rings on the plane to Mexico because like you I DID not want to even think about losing them!

So glad you posted this! My fiance and I were discussing the same thing today. We are getting legally married in 2 weeks to get ducks in a row for insurance, combining fincances, etc. since we won’t have time before the end of the year after we get back from Mexico. Trying to decide whether to exchange rings now or wait until Mexico. I like what other brides have said, waiting until the Destination Wedding and putting them in the “personal item” carry-on. Thanks!
