steen425:  great idea! There are plenty of places just North of the U.S. border which are GORGEOUS. If anyone wants ideas for gorgeous wedding venues in Southern Alberta (where you could fly in and out of the airport in Kalispell, Montana for cheap and just rent cars) or Southeastern BC, PM me! I have a bunch of options I’ve been looking at and I really wouldn’t mind sharing my research, particularly with Destination Wedding brides who want an amazing mountain or lakeside destination for around 16k Canadian/12,500 USD!

skylar84:  I’m in the middle of planning my weeding in Maui. 20 guests family only and my best friend. Maui is a wedding factory. I found a vendor who is doing traditional hawaiian ceremony on the beach, all permits etc. music, bouquet, and Hawaiian leis, and circle of flowers to stand in during ceremony, photos and videography, cake and cider toast (no booze allowed on beach). For $1500. And the extra $500 is only because I upgraded to a second camera for better angles. (Not vain but self conscious of my profile.lol). No kidding $1500. there are some upgrades like bigger cake and flowers. I’m having a prefixe dinner atmy hotel’s fancy restaurant after and I expect to pay $2500 with booze.

because we are saving so much, I am adding a welcome happy hour with appetizers for about $1000 and a snorkel trip. (Not sure if I’m going with private charter or not yet. But 3.5 hour snorkel trip with private charter is $2500 total and includes deli lunch and 2 alcoholic drinks per person.

ill expect another $5k for my fiancée and my hotel for the week and activities bit those are variable costs.

my fiancée has a lot of family on veRay tight budget. We found them a condo that sleeps six. Package with condo, airfare and car rental is $650pp.

we are beyond the moon at how much less expensive this option is. For same price of a traditional wedding in sf, we are getting a weeding week of fun. We are even thinking of adding a post wedding brunch.

We’re getting married in November in Antigua, Guatemala. We’re spending more than your budget, but most of the extras are not neccesary to have a gorgeous wedding for that many people (fiance is getting a custom tux made, I splurged on calligraphy, etc.) We are having our ceremony at a Catholic Church, and then our reception at a hotel. However, the hotel also does ceremonies all the time and it’s gorgeous. These pictures are of a courtyard and adjacent room that can hold up to 100 in each space, and couples often do the ceremony outside then move inside for dinner and dancing. The hotel is called the Porta Hotel Antigua. Between a two-ish hours for cocktails and little bites, a 3 course seated dinner with wine service, and wine and beer open bar for the rest of the night, we’re looking at about $9,000 for 70 people, and that includes florals, linens, tables, chairs, set up, service, tax, and tip, and you get an awesome coordinator included (who speaks English.) The rooms are great, and they’ll do a discounted rate of $100-125/night depending on the season. Our guests are coming from all over the place and are very excited. The flights ranged from $400-700, depending on when people booked and where they were coming from.

Its off the beaten path, but that’s why we fell in love with it. One google image search and I was hooked!

  • Wedding: May 2016 - Maui

I am getting married on Maui at the Royal lahaina resort the ceremony is around $3300 instead of doing a traditional reception we are paying for our guests to go to the luau. Our total for everything is under $10000 and the hotel provided us with a wedding coordinator. Good luck planning

I did a detailed post on this when I got back from my Destination Wedding last year: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/heres-what-my-mexico-destination-wedding-cost/

The post details direct costs of the reception and is specific about what was included and what was not.  If you include EVERYTHING (much of which has nothign to do with a Destination Wedding, such as the cost of rings and clothing) we spent $20,000.
