Hi, we have booked our cruise for 11-30-2013 and we will stop in St. Thomas on 12-3-2013 and plan to have our wedding on the beach just us two anfor two of our friends. Can anyone giveme any ideas on whhere to start with the wedding planning? We haven’t spoken with the cruise ship wedding planner yet but thought I’d reach out on here first! Thank you all for any tips!

My brother got married on a cruise, but got married before the ship took off. I’m not sure of tips for when you’re doing the wedding at a port.

You might want to check the requirements and see if there is a residency requirement for St. Thomas. I am getting married in Jamaica and there was one. Some are anywhere from 24-72 hours. I know one of my last cruises, someone got married at port tho. I can’t remember which one.

Just one thing to keep in mind: if the ship isn’t able to dock in St. Thomas for some reason, you wouldn’t be able to have your legal ceremony, though the ship could arrange a symbolic ceremony onboard if space and time allows. I know cruise lines and some cruise brides suggest getting married at an earlier port on the offchance something happens, giving you time to arrange a wedding at a later port. Just a thought!
Have fun! My fiance and I love cruising and are getting married on a ship before it departs.

We are also getting married on Carnival Cruiselines but will be doing an embarkation day wedding. I’ve heard of some brides using a local wedding planner. Since its going to be you, Fiance, and 2 friends, maybe you all can go to a local restaurant for an intimate dinner after the ceremony? Also, you should start doing research on the area and attractions to get some ideas. One last thing I’d like to add, as PP said you may want to look into residency requirements (if you haven’t already), and also consider the possibility that the ship could miss your port due to unforseen circumstances. Just something to think about! Good luck and happy planning!
