@mrschristmas – Go have the wedding of your dreams, whatever it is!  Tell your Future Mother-In-Law that she can come for less time, or choose not to come.  Most resorts have an option to broadcast your ceremony on the internet for those who can’t be there.  At the end of the day, this is YOUR wedding and you should not be bullied into something that isn’t your dream.

I am going to have a similar dilemma… I am currently trying to save up the money for my wedding. I also cannot afford to have a wedding in NJ, it is wayyyy to expensive! Anyway, I want to have a wedding on a cruise or a boat. I have to calculate the amount of money and see if the far away cruise to beautiful islands will be close to the price of having the wedding on a daytime cruise near Philly… If it is then I might as well go visit some islands! I asked my cousin if he could walk me down the aisle but he never answered. Instead he flooded me with questions about details because he would have to get someone to watch his daughter, etc, etc, etc. If I have the little yacht or cruise wedding nearby (if it is cheaper) I could have more people come I am certain. Otherwise I may have just less than 20 people, maybe even less than ten. At this point, I don’t care if it is just my Fiance and I…. I am more excited about the honeymoon than the wedding. I have already accepted that outside of the bridal party, a bunch of folks may not come. OH WELL!!! Do whatever you want, it is your day, and if folks don’t go, then they don’t go. To save money I may just invite a small amount of people and have a dinner/wedding shower or newlywed party when we get back. You can’t worry about what other people will or won’t do. If she misses her only son’s wedding she will regret it for the rest of her days… You won’t because you will be busy enjoying your happiness…
