We are not sure what to do. Our site requires us to use their photographer or pay a 500 fee for using an outside one. If the its a friend taking the pictures there is no extra charge.
Here’s the problem. Of the two prefered photographers, one is booked. The other one i like well enough but they aren’t my dream photos. Their package is 3250.00 for 7 hours, two photographers, an album, trash the dress shoot, digital edited images etc. It’s a little more than I would want to spend on photographs that I am not ABSOLUTALY in love with.
Other option: sneak in the photographer. We could hire someone from FL , pretnend theyre a guest to avoid the 500$ fee and fly them to Jamaica for 300 pay for their hotel for two nights for 400 and still have money left to pay their fee (unknown because we havent found a specific one) likely 2000.00 Which puts me at 2700.00 for ONE photographer whom I would make sure i LOVED for similar hours, no trash the dress shoot, and it would add a lot of stress and planning.
I like the easy one (pay the 3250) but i dont know if i can stomach paying that much for someone I haven’t fallen for artisicaly. Here’s their website, let me know what you think too…..http://www.truecolorsphotos.com

My vote would be to fly in your own photographer. Whether you sneak the person in or pay the extra $500 is up to you (I would pay the extra $500, but I’m paranoid). I don’t love the photographer that the venue recommends, and I think you could probably find someone much better. Have you thought about using a different photographer in Jamaica? That way you wouldn’t have to pay for flight and hotel and could splurge a little more on the photography.

I would advise strongly against sneaking someone in. As a photographer myself, I know that you don’t want to risk something going wrong with your wedding photos, and should make sure you are doing it according to your venue’s standards so nothign unexpected happens.
Additionally, don’t book someone unles you love their style, and feel they’re a good fit–it has to be a match 🙂

I’d say fly your own photographer in. Consider them a “friend” at the resort, and rest assured that you’ll have the pictures that you want.
I sent you a PM!

Talk to the venue again, ask to speak to a manager, remind them that you are paying them A LOT of money as it is and ask them to let you have your own photographer at no extra cost.
I would simply suggest that if they comply you would suggest the venue to family and friends for future get togethers. Of course you don’t need to do this, but its good for them to believe they have potential returning customers.
