I had no idea my man could be so romantic! He surprised me with a vacation for our 7-year anniversary. He refused to tell me ANYTHING about the trip… I didn’t even find out where we were flying to until the airline check-in agent sang (yes, sang) “Have fun in Floridaaaa BaystateBriiiiide!” (LoL) In fact, I didn’t even know where we were going or what we were doing each day until the events actually happened. He made everything on the entire trip a surprise.
We landed in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday night and rented a car. I had never been to northern Florida, and I couldn’t figure out exactly what he had up his sleeve. It was late so we grabbed a quick bite to eat and checked into our hotel on Amelia Island for the night. The next day (our anniversary) he took me sightseeing around the island. We grabbed a burger for lunch and I noticed he didn’t eat much (unlike him). He said he didn’t want to get an upset stomach, and I believed him considering he got some crazy burger loaded with bacon & onion rings on top. At this point he asked me if I wanted to go walk on the beach. I said sure and my then-bf appeared to be searching for a beach to go to on the GPS. (He was even sneaky enough to change the names of places in the GPS during the vacation, so I literally didn’t know where we were going until we actually got there.) We made a quick stop at a gas station and he ran in to grab a bottle of water.
We got to the beach and the weather was gorgeous — the sky was clear blue, the sun was warm, and there was a nice breeze. I started walking toward the beach and my bf pointed to a horse trailer in the back of the parking lot and said “Oh hey, do you think those horses get to walk on the beach?” I replied “Probably. Someday I would love to do that” and I kept walking. Then it all seemed to happen at once. He said “Let’s go see the horses” and a split second later a woman next to the horses yelled “Does she know yet?!” He took me horseback riding on the beach!! I was ecstatic! We rode for about 30 minutes and I heard the handler say to him “We should fix your saddle, it looks a tad too long for you.” They both dismounted from their horses but I stayed on my horse. The handler said I could get down and stretch my legs and I replied “I’m good, thank you.” Then my bf says “Let’s take a picture with the horses in front of the ocean” so I had to dismount. The handler took some pictures and I started walking back to my horse. My bf had to grab my arm to stop me from walking away and next thing I knew he was down on one knee asking me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest, I had to ask him to repeat what he said to me later on. I was so shocked that all I heard was “For the past seven years…” and then I burst out crying. Then I heard the handler say in the background “Was that a yes??” and I realized that I hadn’t replied yet and my now-fiancé was still kneeling in the sand awaiting my response. (Oops, Haha)
In all my fantasies of how the proposal would happen, I never imagined something so romantic… or me crying! After seven years, you may wonder how I would still be surprised that a proposal was coming. Honestly, I was convinced that he would ask me later that night because he had told me “You get to choose what we do Thursday night, but bring a nice dress just in case.” He was so nonchalant about going for a walk on the beach, I didn’t think anything of it. (Plus, I tend to be gullible.) And then I thought we were riding horses on the beach as a “prequel” to the proposal later than night. Apparently, my Fiance told me later that he was waiting for a call from the horse handler, giving him the ok to bring me to the beach so he was stalling for time. Turns out he got the call while he ran into the gas station convenience store for the water, which saved him from having to try to take the call with me standing right next to him.
Later, my Fiance told me when he was going through security at the airport, a security person saw the ring in the scanner and asked my Fiance if that was his bag. When we were walking to our gate to board the plane an hour later, the same security person walked by us and winked at my bf. The only thing is, I happened to see this big, muscular security man wink at my bf (not knowing the security person knew about the ring). I was laughing so hard and joking around that my bf was getting hit on by a guy from security and maybe he should be taking HIM on vacation instead of me. (Haha)
The next day we drove to Orlando and enjoyed the rest of the surprise vacation swimming with dolphins, feeding giraffes, sightseeing, visiting theme parks… My Fiance did an amazing job planning the entire trip. Oh, and did I mention my Fiance picked out the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen?!! (I may be a tad partial, considering it’s my ring – hehe) He took me ring shopping in August, but apparently that was just so he could make sure I liked the ring he had chosen for me without being too obvious about it. He also set up and get-together with his parents and my parents months ago (!!) and in front of all four of them he asked my parents for their blessing.

Thank you to all you Bees for keeping me sane during the “waiting” period. It helped me a lot to know that others went through the same things as me, and I really appreciate being able to share things with you all. I know it’s easier for me to say (now) but your time will come and oh man, it is SOO worth the wait. <3
