My fiance and I are torn between renting a house near Lake Michigan this summer and having an intimate ceremony with a big bash afterwards OR keeping our October 24th date and having a traditional wedding.
We’re both a little anxious when it comes to social situations, but I feel like if we did the house rental we might miss out on the traditional fun wedding things. I’d like to walk into our reception and be announced as husband and wife, have our dances, and eat cake. I’m not sure if that will happen and/or flow at a house wedding and reception.
I love the idea of having a chill atmosphere and close family and friends party/reception. I’m just torn. Anything I’m forgetting to consider?

Without knowing other details, I would just keep the Oct wedding (assuming it’s local). Sounds like more effort doing the small ceremony in the summer then having a big bash afterwards (meaning planning 2 events plus it’s a destination wedding). I’m saying this because although boring to some, I really like traditional and classic stuff. But obviously, you should do what you guys like best. ItsShannonK13 :

This is a super personal choice. I did the destination house rental wedding in favor of a larger affair. We did not do all the regular announcement stuff. We did have a dance, eat cake, and had a dance party. We did not follow up with a big bash after because the logistics didn’t make sense, and all of our close, every day people were at the wedding save a few. I wouldn’t change our wedding for the world. It was the right wedding for us.

Keep in mind that many rental houses through AirBnB and VRBO prohibit parties or large gatherings.

I wanted so so sooooo badly to just rent a giant AirBnB somewhere fun and have our wedding there. But Fiance wants a traditional wedding so that’s what we ended up doing. i say if both you and your Fiance are on board, go for it! You can still make it as “traditional” as you want–you don’t have to skip all the things! You can still get a DJ and have those things if you want them.
