@sfigu16:  There is a Destination Wedding board that would be more helpful!  I think I also saw a similar post there.

I had a Destination Wedding.  It was a private wedding in Canada.  It cost $3,300 total for all things wedding related.  Sometimes it can be cheaper to get married in another country, but then again the costs might be put on your guests for travelling to a different place.

Around $5000 at Walt Disney World.

We stayed for 10 days and honeymooned there as well… so the whole trip (wedding included) was a little over $10,000.

If we had stayed here, our wedding alone would have been $10,000 and we wouldn’t have gotten a honeymoon at all. So, not only did I get my dream wedding in my dream location with my dream honeymoon… but I got it for cheaper than I would have if I just “settled” for a local wedding.

@rosworms:  Did you guys bring guests with you? Did they pay their own way?

I would LOVE a disney wedding!! But I am not sure as there are so many people I would love to have around me.

@leisha606:  There were 13 of us TOTAL.  We had chose the Escape package.

There are several different types of wedding you can choose from… and you can personalize within those packages.

I’ll start with the smallest…

1. Memories Collection: $2500 for up to 4 guests (plus bride and groom)

Includes: choice of 3 venues, bouquet, violinist, limo for 3 hours, photography for one hour, 20 5×7 prints (additional prints can be ordered online), wedding coordinator.

2. Escape Collection: starts at $4,925 for up to 18 guests (plus bride and groom)

Includes: choice of 6 venues, bouquet and boutteniere, cake with topper, one bottle of FairyTale Cuvee OR two bottles of sparkling cider, violinist, limo for 4 hours, photgraphy for 2 hours, a proof book of all prints and an album with 20 4×6 prints, 2 Walt Disney World annual passes, wedding coordinator.

3. Wishes Collection: minimum expenditure of $12,000 for 20+ guests (20 is the minimum… you cannot have less than 20)

Included: choice of over 30 venues, 2 Walt Disney World annual passes.

This collection is a la carte instead of packaged. The coordinator will help you plan and design your wedding and reception.

4. Couture Collection by David Tuera: Minimum expenditure $65,000…. not really worth it… same stuff as Wishes, but with decor themes pre-designed by David Tutera.

Now… this is just for Walt Disney World. Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line also do weddings, but they are slightly different.

We did Walt Disney World and we chose the Escape collection. We chose to design our own cake instead of choose from one of the four they have. I also designed my own bouquet instead of using one of the four in the collection. I paid some extra to add to my photography package.

@rosworms:  I love your pictures!! Thank you so much, that was so detailed! I def. think you chose the right the package. That is very affordable! Doesn’t break the bank and still have a nice handful of loved ones included.  I live fairly close to Disneyland so I will have to check out their packages too, but I think DisneyWorld would be the best for a honeymoon. Congrats again!! What a magical way to start your lives together!

We got married in Mexico (Privilege Aluxes on Isla Mujeres, a tiny island off the coast of Cancun) in July. There were 4 guests total + me & my groom. We negotiated down from the hotels smallest package (for 20 guests) to an even smaller package for $1,500 (including the coordinator, paperwork, translation, flowers, etc). We did not have a reception though, just a nice dinner at the all-inclusive restaurant on the beach. We ended up staying at the hotel a total of 7 days in the honeymoon suite (plus 3 flights- from San Fran to Cancun, Cancun to Atlanta to see family, then Atlanta to San Fran) for a total of $4,000. Plus $600 for the photog for 3 hours & prints & albums… So the whole shebang (not counting dress & rings) was about $6,000 (for the wedding, a week in mexico + activities, and half a week in GA + rental car & potluck reception for 40ppl)….

It was much cheaper than having a wedding back in our home town. We had started planning a big wedding but the budget quickly got out of hand as did the guest list. Before we cancelled it all we were looking at upwards of $12,000 for about 100 ppl… Plus we are in CA & our families are in GA so it was beginning to get expensive for them to make the trip as well. We just did a potluck/family reunion style reception back in GA after our wedding & honeymoon in mexico (about $500).

We had our wedding in West Palm Beach.  With a honeymoon for a week in Antigua, I think our wedding cost about $14,000.

Do I think that it would have been less expensive to have it at home?  No.  We still would have gone on our honeymoon which was a big expense. Plus we would have had to pay for a reception that would have been at least 3 times the size.

@sfigu16:  We’re getting married in Hawaii and though I haven’t added it all up, I’m guessing it’ll be between $20K & $25K. Would have been cheaper to get married here? Possibly or at least the same amount since we live in the Bay Area and things are PRICEY here. However, we would have definitely had more guests which would have upped it.

I think you can definitely do a Destination Wedding on a budget, depending on your vision. Our vision included our closest friends & family which is about 55 guests. Plus it’s going to be memorable for EVERYBODY, even if our actual wedding isn’t the party of the year =)
