My and my Fiance are thinking of doing a destination wedding. I was just looking to get opinions and location ideas from people who have done them. Did u have the reception there as well or back at home. What were some of the issues you encountered. Any tips to make planning this easier.

Venue – Mr. Sancho’s Resort, Cozumel, Mexico with Cozumel Wedding Planners (Stephanie and Lluvia)
Stephanie met us at the port and rode with us to the venue – which was breathtakingly beautiful! Lluvia was at the site making sure everything was perfect – the vibrant green of the jungle paired with the crystal blue ocean and white sand beach made for a dramatic natural look. Everything from the flowers to the food to the bar was incredible.
Unlike a lot of the Destination Wedding locations I researched, the planning was super easy and customizable without much headache. It was like a menu – you went through and checked exactly what you wanted, but unlike a traditional wedding, it was all in one place! Some of the packages offered by other places I looked at locked you into some things you would rather not have and charged a lot for things outside the package – definitely wasn’t the case here.
We brought our photographers/videographers with us – a husband/wife team from Kansas City called Salt and Light Photography. They do have their own photographer there if that’s what you would prefer. We loved bringing our own photogs b/c it was important to us and we loved their style.
We did a normal ceremony & reception there… to me, planning the reception is often the stressful & expensive part of traditional wedding. So it didn’t make sense to me to have that worry and stress on my plate after coming back from our wonderul and relaxing wedding & honeymoon!
If you’re considering a destination wedding, I give our experience two thumbs up!

The only issues we had were with photography. The sandals photographers leave much to be desired and luckily we found this out ahead of time, so we hired a local photographer off site! We had a ton of fun doing the pics all over the island. We were married at Sandals Negril. Most other resorts allow you to bring in your own photographer but sandals does not unless they are a paying guest for 3 days.
Makeup trial and hair trials went great. The day of was great. Wedding coordinator was amazing. We eloped so we did not do a reception, but i am sure they would handle that perfectly as well!

Prettysmile40: not all of them do. they won’t send samples and of course you never know which one you will get when you get there anyways. We had a sandals photographer for the ceremony bc sandals will NOT allow any off site photographers unless they are a paying guest for 3 nights. Our photographer picked us up after the ceremony and we went all over the west end Of the island to take photos. Sandals has photography “partners” now which are REAL photographers but they had ridiculous packages that were so freakin expensive (like 3x what I paid!). You can inquire with sandals they will send you the price list for the photography partners as well as their own snapshots photographers
