I didn’t vote because I don’t like either suggestion for your situation. Why not do an elopement or small (just the two fo you) destination wedding (as in send invites for the party before you leave to get married) and then have a more casual party to celebrate with everyone when you get back.

You could always do a combination of destination with elopement and just bring you parents along. That’s our attitude in considering a Hawaii wedding. We will go, but we’ll buy airfare and housing for a week for the folks.

IT depends on how close you are with your parents, are you going to be heartbroken that they are not there?  If not then go for Destination Wedding. But if you might regret them not being there and your dad not walking you down the aisle  then a home wedding would be the way to go.

My husband and I had a destination wedding and then my parents threw us a party at their house for when we returned.  It was amazing and I would not have done it any other way.  You should look into using destinationweddings.com to help assist with your planning.  They will make everything stress free!

We had both a destination wedding and a simple reception at home afterwards and it was great.  Obviously your heart is set on going south to be married so you should do it, no one ever regrets doing it, just read through reviews.  When you come back the reception you have at home will not have to be as elaborate as the wedding you would have at home and it’ll result in huge cost savings for you.  My bet is that you can do both destination and reception at home for less then one large wedding at home.  And you get multiple celebrations!  We worked with destinationweddings.com and it was amazing to see how they were able to get such great prices on quality resorts which made our guest list grow substantially.  When they can pull strings and use their strong relationships with the vendors to pull off amazing deals for your guests you will not only feel great about working with them, you will be so happy to give so many friends and family a great vacation at a great price, with an amazing event of course!  I recommend that if you do go the destination route, you should definitely check out their services.  You won’t regret it!  Good Luck!

I voted for a destination wedding.  Why?

When my wife and I were planning our wedding, we wanted to do something different.  Sure, we could have rented a hall, hired a dj or band, had prom chicken, rushed around and spent very little time with our wedding guests….  We thought about it and a destination wedding made sense.

It was unique – getting married in a chapel on the beach usually is.  No rushing around worrying about time.  We had a small, intimate wedding and loved it!!!

Best part….we worked with a company to plan everything.  My wife did some research and found a company called DestinationWeddings.com.  They helped us plan everything from the resort to the flowers to the transportation.  Everything!!!

We had some minor stresses to deal with as well.  A hurricane blew through a week before our wedding and delayed our departure by a couple days.  The customer service we recieved was top notch and we were still able to get married on the day we had planned.

If you do a destination wedding…give them a chance to help you out.  It’ll be worth it!

We faced the same situation and decided to have a destination wedding and then a wedding reception at home. We used the services of destinationweddings.com and saved a ton of money while still having a very nice wedding. Our home-town reception was fabulous too. Everyone wins!
