Fiance and I are planning a destination wedding in Ohau, Hawaii in July 2015 with family and friends, around 15-20 people. We wanted something small and intimate. We are planning on having a party a few weeks later at venue called the Pent House for around 70 guests. We really want it to feel more like a cocktail party/ celebration than a wedding reception. We want it to be “We got hitched, lets celebrate” feel. Need help with decor ideas? Do I do favors? What should the inviations say? We will have grazing stations for food. I was thinking my new husband will do a small cake, and do cupcakes for dessert for our guests? My fiance will probably not wear a tuxedo, and I will probably just wear a party dress. Please give me your thoughts, ideas, anything!! Thanks ladies!!! Please be kind.

You can do this, but the most important thing is to make it very clear that people are not being invited to a wedding; they are being invited to an event to celebrate the marriage. So on the invite, I’d write something like:
“XX and XY were married on (date) in Honolulu, Hawaii. Please join us to celebrate their recent marriage at blah blah blah”
You’re having a party. Treat it like party. Make sure everyone knows it’s a cocktail party (so they know to eat beforehand and having their own dinner plans for afterwards, and so they’re not expecting like, dancing). Also, seeing as it IS just a party, and not a wedding, I would not advertise a registry (if you have one at all)–meaning, make no mention of it in the invite, and be prepared to receive fewer gifts.

missnikki828: We are doing something similar. Ours in May in Key West while our hometown is in Kentucky. There will be about 15 people coming to Key West and we are having a reception for about 150 at home.
We arent having “favors”, we are having a candy bar as the favor with personalized goodie bags that say thank you. Also having a photobooth. We wanted to just have a fun party. We are also having yard games, open bar(of course.lol), dancing.
Our invitation (the location changed, thats why I didnt erase that.lol)

My fiance and I are getting married in a private ceremony in Italy, then doing the cocktail “open house” reception back home when we return. Being as it’s about 4 months away now, I really need to get some invitations out soon but wasn’t sure exactly how I wanted them worded.
PS- @ChelseaGabrielle, we are neighbors!
