- Wedding: August 2013
I spent a lot of wedding planning time scouring the Internet looking for advice and help. I found some useful information and so in return I hope my information can help at least one bride out there!!
I was married on August 24, 2013 at the Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas
Reception: Atlantis Seagrapes Overlook Ceremony: One and Only Ocean Club Cloister Garden
Photographer: We used Mark Da Cunha, and LOVED him, best decision of the wedding. He was on time and really easy to get along with. He was low-key and took over 3,000 photographs. We got our photos back in under a month and you get full access to your pictures. While I agree that photographs were probably one of the costly items of the wedding it was well worth the money. We get so many compliments on how great they turned out!!
Minister: Also a great choice, Matthew Sweeting! He was FANTASTIC. He really made the ceremony personal and special. He also made everything easy on the day of the wedding. A few things I would recommend. 1. Have him do the paperwork for you, and accompany you down to the registrar’s office (it took us 10 minutes to complete) 2. Have them ship the forms to you after the wedding. 3. A rehearsal costs $100 and is well worth it to figure out the kinks 4. Spend time answering the questions he sends you, they are used during the ceremony 5. We didn’t do the phone or email consult and found that everything was still smooth.
DJ: We went with Jose Ageeb, he was good…played great songs and kept everyone dancing all night. He also was able to help us find a steel drummer for the ceremony, very key! We got married at the One and Only Cloisters, so we had a PA system, Jose did it for $250, cheapest we found.
Flowers: We went with Wildflowers. When you get married at the gardens you don’t need much, it is GEORGEOS on it’s own, plus most of our flowers died from the August heat by the end of the ceremony. We just did rose petals down the isle way. The centerpieces were very nice at the ceremony. I would suggest finding pictures of what you like and using those.
One and Only: BREATHTAKING!! The gardens are well worth the price. We did not pay for it in a package and found it was less expensive, especially because we wanted our own photographer and flowers.
Seagrapes: The food was good, we went with a mash potato bar, and the mesa grill (ick), and the Caribbean Grill (alright) the dessert shooter bar was tasty, although for our 50 guests we did not need as many as we had. The location was private, and quiet, except for our music. I would recommend open bar if that is in your budget. The drinks were good and the bartenders really friendly.
Travares Clarke was our wedding planner, he was helpful, and he coordinated us to meet with all of the vendors when we arrived in the Bahamas. Also, he took us on a tour of the venues. He was good.
A few not so nice parts of Atlantis/The wedding
They charged for everything!! Down to the AMPS for the DJ, really?!? We went with long table clothes (cost extra from Wildflowers) I would do it again, only because it did make it look a little fancier. We also did a table runner in our color; I would not waste money on that. We had to pay for lighting at the reception as well! YES LIGHTS! We went with 4 up lights and it really light up the place, without lights it would have been too dark at night.
Cake: We decided to go with an outside vendor for our cake. Because Atlantis was out of control expensive. We used Ann Casserly for our cake. I sent her a beautiful cake that I wanted. It was very expensive so we talked about how to get the price down. The cake was the most disappointing part of the wedding. It looked nothing like the gorgeous cake I had picked out and was not even tasty. I would not not not recommend using this company. I also had to pay for a wire transfer, as that is the only form of payment she had.
Atlantis accommodations: You would think that bringing 53 people to the Bahamas would mean that you get some perks. WRONG! They did not comp any rooms or give anything for the bride and groom (well..we got a welcome bag) The reception was helpful and the room was very nice. I would recommend staying in the Royal Towers. Our guests stayed in the Beach Tower and some were disappointed by the views/rooms.
I could write so much more, but I feel it will be overwhelming if it wasn’t already. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I will be happy to share anything else you would like to know!!
CONGRATULATIONS and good luck!!! Enjoy it; time goes by really fast 🙂
