I plan on having a destination elopement/small wedding and I was having a hard time figuring this situation out myself too. I just decided to do my own makeup and hair. I’m super picky about my hair and makeup anyways so I think a few trials before the big day will be just fine!

Yeah, I wish I could fly to Hawaii just to get my hair done…

I winged it and it worked out fine. I found the lady on wedding wire and went with it.

j9marie :  I just scheduled mine for a couple of days before the wedding. We got in on a Sunday and got married on the Wednesday so I scheduled it for the Monday. It worked out well and I was able to discuss what I liked and didn’t like about the trial.

My wedding is in Vermont (I live in California) but we did take one planning trip out there a few months ago and I did my trial then.

For situations where it’s not feasible to fly out there before the wedding, I believe I’ve seen other bees’ posts about getting their trial the day before, either during the day or for the rehearsal dinner.

I found a makeup artist though looking online at a wedding I liked (a Bee’s, actually) … I could see from the photos that she could do the style I liked, and so I booked her long-distance.  However, I did have a trial the day we got there (like 3 days before the wedding) and I’m SO GLAD I did.  She is AMAZING, but the trial makeup was not totally what I wanted, and I’m glad we had a chance to work that out.  I would totally also take photos with the trial makeup on, so you can know how you’ll look.

I was going to just wing it with my hair, but then I ended up going to get a blowout in town a couple of days before the wedding, and the people there seemed to really know what they were talking about.  I decided to treat myself to an updo, found some pics on pinterest, and – miraculously – they were free the morning of the wedding!  They did a fabulous job – it was perfect 🙂

I’m going to do a trial with my local hair dresser so I have a good idea of what I want and then doing a hair and makeup trial once I get to Jamaica a couple days before wedding.  Hoping it works out fine!

Our wedding was on a Monday and I had my trial on the Friday before – I was going to wing it initially but my planner booked me a free trial anyway. I’m glad as the MUA was a bit heavy-handed for my taste, and I was able to ask her to dial it down a little for the wedding.

We have a canonical interview so we’re flying in a couple of months prior to the wedding. Im going do it then plus food tasting and everything else.

j9marie :

I was wondering the same…

I am having a hair and makeup trial done at home by my regular stylist and a local MUA…we will take pictures…I am bringing the pictures with me  – having a trial done 2 days before the wedding, then hoping for the best the day of the wedding. A lot of money on hair and makeup! lol

Still undecided but I think I may wing it. Plus I think the trial would be pretty expensive too, so my budget side says no. We fly in monday and wedding is Saturday. But Tuesday will be finishing guest welcome bags, planner and marriage license. Wednesday will be spray tan and delivering welcome bags, and Thursday we will be getting ready for the welcome dinner. Maybe Thursday morning it could be done…not sure.

I hired one by looking at reviews on Wedding Wire and did not have a trial. It worked out fine. I did have enough time to get one when I got to my destination but decided I didn’t want to spend the extra money.

Yet to have mine, but I checked reviews and then also booked a trial for a couple of days beforehand. I am fully stocked up with all of my favourite products just in case it all goes wrong and I need to do my own though.

I have had bad experiences with hair and makeup in the past so I am a little apprehensive.

We arrive on Sunday and get married on Wednesday. I have a hair and makeup trial on Monday. After looking at many of the unhappy makeup trials on here, I got a bit nervous. I am going to Sephora in a few weeks to select colors and have my makeup done (a pre trial trial). I want to be my own inspiration photos for the makeup artist at the venue. Although I am having airbrush makeup at the hotel, I wanted to pick up lipstick, eyeshadow and blush they can use or try to match colors. I am also working with my hairdresser at home to come up with a hairstyle that can be replicated. Perhaps it is a bit of overkill but I don’t want to look back at my photos and wonder why I wore that lipstick….
