I’m debating a COCKTAIL RECEPTION VS. AN ACTUAL RECEPTION — read on, I need HELP!
My fiancee and I are getting married next May 20, 2013 in Clearwater, FLA. We are getting married on the actual beach, on a private strip of beach. We are planning a cocktail hour, a reception, and then a bonfire on the beach after! Our MAX number of atendee’s is 25!
If we have a reception, it would be in the private dining room at our resort, so it’s still small and intimate. I went to Pier 1 and bought 25 white carved charger plates, and have been stressing over place settings for a few weeks now. I’m afraid that since it’s a destination, all of my ideas together in the same room won’t look that hot. Haha. I’ve been trying to make as many mock-ups as I can, but it’s still not the same.
The more I think about having a sit down dinner, the more stressed I get. Our beach wedding is at sunset (6:15-6:45ish that time of year), then the guests will go to the cocktail hour around 7:30PM, and won’t be eating until after 8PM.
I thought it would be cool to have a cocktail reception on the private balcony over-looking the beach at out resort. We would go heavy on the apps and drinks, served gradually over an hour or so. My fiancee and I would arrive. Mingle with everyone, toast, do the whole cake thing, then head to the bonfire.
I was talking this over with a few people in my family. My mom mentioned the fact that people may be EXPECTING a sit down dinner since they’ve flown all the way to Florida for our wedding. But on the other hand, it’s my VERY IMMEDIATE family..3 sister’s, their husbands, our parents, an aunt and uncle.. very small.
Our cocktail hour will have a “Love Notes” box that I had custom made on Etsy, a coffee bar, music, and of course the food and drinks. We’ll have small tables and chairs set up for people to sit and stand.
So I don’t want to be “chincey” about it.. but I also want to do what I want! Please let me know your thoughts!?
