I am from BC Canada and hoping to have a destination wedding either in the DR or Mexico. I’ve been told Mexico would be cheaper because of where we live but the majority of our guests are actually flying out of NS, and so I’m open to both locations.
We are being frugal! Each guest is paying their own way. I’m curious to know if theres any brides here that could tell me what their guests paid for an all inclusive (flight+hotel+whatever else) to either of these locations. And any other info would be super helpful, such as where you had your wedding etc etc.
Im just wondering if it’s unheard of to pay under 1300 per person??

I think you might be able to do this if you get a 3 star hotel but, please keep in mind, that it’ll be more expensive for your guests to fly from NS to Puerta Vallarta and more expensive for you to fly from BC to Cancun, for example. Someone is going to be paying more.
Also, you most likely won’t be getting flight deals because you’ll be booking so far out. If you want to make it cheaper for you, stay on the west coast of Mexico and if you want cheaper for your NS guests, stay on the east coast.
I am from BC and had our wedding in the Riviera Maya in July. The basic all-inclusive rate when we booked 8 months in advance was $1950 per person for a week (no upgrades). We paid for upgrades. Our guests didn’t book until 2 months out and they paid $1800 per person, per week. It wasn’t the fanciest resort in the RM. We definitely had a smaller guest list because of cost. Also, remember there will be costs for getting married down there too. Destinations weddings can be surprisingly expensive.

I am in the planning stagges of my wedding. We are to get married May 30 2015 in Punta Cana, DR
at Breathless resorts (all inclusive) the package price including round trip flights, transfers and hotel stay for 4 days 1280.00 for 3 days 1136.00. As pp replied, yes destination weddings can get expensive with the little things…

mle812: Our guests can stay up to 5 nights and pay around $1250, including their flights. This is for a 4.5 star all-inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico. We also have a kick-ass travel agent that negotiated us a really good deal. Their hotel cost also includes transportation to and from the Cancun airport to the resort.
However- I imagine the flights would be a tad more expensive for you, as my guests are flying from the Midwest and yours would be flying from Canada.

It’s hard to chose a location because I know it will be more expensive for one group whether it’s my BC friends or my NS family & friends. We are looking at resorts that offer free wedding packages and we will be doing all of the official stuff in Canada to avoid any hassle. However, I could never ask people to pay 1800 per person. We are a very young couple and most of our friends are students or are just getting started! I can’t decide what to do!

Try the royal Decameron in PV. It usually has pretty good deals from Vancouver and I’ve heard it’s really nice! Also, try to pick your date that’ll be off season and it will likely be less expensive too.

We’re going to the Excellence PC. Flights are around $550 and 5 nights is $1050 per person. (But we didnt get an air& room package) so everyone has to book them separately.

We got married at the Grand Palladium in the Riviera Maya. This resort has 4 sets of hotels on site, which vary in cost. We did not go with the cheapest hotel as we wanted to be in a more convenient location with the option for a larger room (not available in all of the hotels) so we paid about 1440 per person flying out of Toronto. This could have been under 1400 if we had gone with one of the other hotels on this resort. The great thing about this resort was that these hotels all share amenities so the only thing that is really different is the actual room (all of which are nice, we just wanted something more spacious for our bridal suite and wanted to stay close to our guests as well). Our guests loved it and the long list of amenities and the backdrops made for gorgeous pictures as well.

We’re getting married at the Majestic Elegance (5 star) in Punta Cana next June. The majority of people will be flying out of Toronto. For the week, flight+room+fees/taxes = $1600.

We’re planning a Destination Wedding early May 2015 at the Grand Bahia Principe in Punta Cana. The cheapest room option will be $1800 then they have the option to upgrade for a little more $$. I feel kind of guilty making people pay so much to come, but honestly no one has complained- either they want to come and are making it happen, or they can’t come and that’s fine too. We’ll be having a celebration when we get home too so everyone can be included.
