@Aamitchell51:  I’m in the middle of planning my short (4.5 month) engagement & we are getting married at the Dreams La Romana in PC on May 26th!

I would suggest “hiring” a travel agent. I’m pretty well versed in traveling so I didn’t think I needed it, BUT – it is sooo nice for that person to arrange all your flights AND to communicate with the resort… Which can be painful to do on your own b/c they are slow to respond. I’m using destinationweddings.com and it’s $50, but that gets applied to your booking! So worth it!

What is also nice is that all your guests have a payment plan through them too, totally worth it & it’s less stressful! Good luck!

I am also bringing a local photographer who travels. She’s charging me a discounted flat rate & making a trip out of it. I feel so much more comfortable choosing a local photog that will come along than picking someone solely off the internet (but I am super picky about this!).

Have you picked a date?

Haven’t been to the Hard Rock in PC, but I have friends that have… and they LOVE it.

In truth tho, I’ve found there are 2 groups of travellers… those that like DR, and those that don’t.

Mr TTR & I fall into the second group.

It is too much of a 3rd World Country for us… with lots of Social, Political & Economic Issues… so until things change, we’d prefer to spend our Hard Earned Travel Dollars (and time) elsewhere.

If you are content sitting still in one place for the duration of your holiday, in an “artificial” environment… then you’ll probably be fine

For us when we travel, we like to be able to SEE the actual Destination, and not just the “Disney-like” fantasy that an AI presents… more so in a country where I don’t feel 100% safe going beyond that wall / guards.

And especially so when I am aware of the extreme poverty (mind boggling vs US & Canada Standards) that sits beyond the wall where I am living the good life on the other side.  It just really really upsets me.

When we travel we like to explore the Island, see the sights, eat the food, meet the citizens etc.  Thereby attributing to the local economy… and not just the Brand Name Resort.  The DR just isn’t a place you can do that easily & in a relatively carefree way

Stuff to consider…

@Aamitchell51:  I was thinking about having my wedding there as well.  I heard its very nice and the pictures look amazing.  Everything I have read dinner accomodates 30 people.  Do you know if there is an additional charge if you have more than 30 guest?

Hi there, did you have your Punta Cana – Hard Rock wedding? How was it? I am in the same stages as you when you were posting? Do you have any information you could give me?

I went to the HR Punta Cana for the day to check it out for our wedding. It was great, very vegasy with a shopping mall type layout, tons of shops, restaurants, bars and a nice beach (far walk). The food was great as were the drinks and so much to choose from. The Moon Lounge is amazing for cocktail reception and the ballrooms are customizable to anyhthing you want. The two downsides for me were the pools – they looked a little average, not very picturesque, but not a big deal. Second was the lack of photo op locations. For beautiful wedding photos I would be hard pressed to find those amazing backdrops that I have been envisioning. You have the beach but thats about it, the hotel itself is not architecturally unique, just very average resort-ey style. Other than that your guests will have a blast with all the stuff to do and you should be very happy if those two things arent so important to you. Good luck!

The best rate i have gotten so far for a group is 223 per person/per night. Could any of you share what the best rate someof you got please? I feel like that is alot cuz its almost double the other resorts? Is it worth it? I was looking to get a rate at 160-180 per person. Please help!
