Hi!  My friend just had a Destination Wedding and went though the same worry.  Don’t check it-but I’m sure you weren’t considering that.  Instead, call your airline.  Each airline has it’s own quirks and rules.  What she ended up doing with the airline (can’t remember airline, sorry) was bringing it to the gate with her and then a representative from the airline took it from her the moment before she stepped on the plane (you know that big pile of strollers you pass-that’s where they took it).  It was immediately taken down and hung below.  Then she was greeted by another representative with it the moment she stepped off the plane.  She was a little scared, but it worked out, and you really can’t argue too much with airline rules.

Definitely don’t check your gown.  Bring it as a carry-on and they will usually let you store it in the first class closets which are bigger or store it with the flight attendent’s stuff.  Call ahead to be sure.

Surely you don’t want to fly with the stress of not knowing if yr baggage was checked on the right flight. take it as carry on luggage and inform the airlines well in advance about it..

good luck..

I had a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen and this was one of my biggest concern before the wedding.  I researched other boards and most of them say to carry it on and let them know you’re getting married with a huge smile!  They usually love brides and will store it in the first class closet.  If you call the airlines, chances are you will not talk to anyone who is helpful and will usually tell you to check it in.

I didn’t call but instead carried on my purse, my carry-on, and my huge dress!  Our flight was cancelled and had to fly another airline.  I told one of the attendants and she said they didn’t have a first class closet to hang my dress in but, a small closet about 3 ft. high.  At this point, I didn’t care and shoved it in..I was happy to be going to my destination!  Anyway, bring a portable hand steamer with you for any wrinkles that may appear from transporting it…

 Congrats and happy wedding!
