Just came back from a friend’s destination wedding on the big island and I would NOT recommend it. As a guest, we didn’t have much to do (without driving all over the island) and beaches were “meh” (at least where we were) hubby and I went to maui after and had a much better time. maybe it’s better when living in the big island, but since we were tourists, we wanted some fun. 🙂

I haven’t been to a wedding there, but I went to Honolulu/Waikiki Beach area this spring and it was beautiful, though very touristy. It might be good for your guests though if they want to be able to do a lot and not have to travel far on the island. I liked that the main strip was walkable with plenty to see and do. It did remind me of any large city in the US though, just with better views!

Lanai is AMAZING! Dh’s brother lived there and was married there,  as well. Bill Gates rented the entire island when he married. There’s so much to do… Hiking, golf,  amazing beaches and associated water activities.

We got married on Oahu, but the windward side… I was not getting near Waikiki! We had a small wedding so we got married on Waimanalo Beach and then went back to the house we rented in Lanikai for the reception! It was perfect! We’d been to Oahu a couple of times but our guest hadn’t, and they were never bored. There was always something for them to do.

We’re also getting married in Maui.  I have never been but I’ve heard so much about how beautiful it is!

Maui is awesome. We love Kauai for the hiking and beaches but it rains a lot! We got married on Lanai and it was wonderful. The Big Island is actually my least favorite island (it’s still great, obviously, just not the best in my opinion).
