@brokeninnj:  Ours was a bit of “destination” wedding as it was about 4 hours from where we lived. The most important piece of advice I can give you is to ensure that your friends/family have readily available transportation and accomodations!

I am also in NJ, and we did a sort of destination wedding in the Poconos in PA (Stroudsburg). It was AMAZING. Absolutely perfect. About 1.5 hours from us, but more like 2 hours for most of our guests.

We had some skeptics at first (some prim and proper guests whose initial reaction was “WHAT? Married in the WOODS?? What about BUGS?! And DIRT?!”).. and EVERYONE (skeptics included) said it was the most beautiful wedding they’d been to.

We had about 80 guests, and it came to almost $20k (including my $1500 dress, and $1800 photography… so there are ways to cut corners further!)

I can’t recommend this place ENOUGH.. Stroudsmoor Country Inn. They are sort of an all-in-one, but have separate distinct and VERY private sites. You get a wedding coordinator to help you through all the planning, the food is out of this world amazing (23+ butlered hors d’oeuvres for cocktail hour!!), amazing cake included, they have an on-site salon and spa for hair, they have lodging on site, a restaurant, a florist (who did a beautiful job!!), a bridal shop for any last-minute purchases (everything – veils, flower girl baskets, bridesmaid survival kits, etc..), a photographer (they were out of our budget… but their work is amazing!!), a house DJ who was ultra professional and fantastic… best part is they remember EVERY detail!

We got married on a Saturday, so almost all of our guests booked a room for Sat. night, and all our immediate family and bridal party also got a room for Friday night (rehearsal dinner)… many of the guests who only were here Sat. night said they wished they’d known how beautiful it would be, because they would have wanted to stay longer!

If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll give you more information! 🙂
