There are lots of things that fall into the ” nice but not necessary” category.

Out of Town bags are one. No one is going to say ” It would have been a great wedding if only there had been an Out of Town bag”.

AS for favors, they belong in the same category. I would suggest, if you choose to do favors, avoid personalized favors like the plague. Most people do not want anything in their house with your names and weding date on it.

where is the destination?  as a traveller i would appreciate when we arrive a few maps, info about getting out and around town, things to do, nearest atm and shop for snacks etc  –  this stuff should be free from the tourist centre or hotel. you could get these and tie them with a ribbon with your welcome letter

@eloping:  I wish I could like this status.

We are having our wedding on a cruise ship and since many of our guests have never cruised before we are loading Out of Town bags with things we found handy to have, but didn’t think of the first time (highlighters, travel mug, ziploc bag, aspirin, tissues, dramamine, foreign postage stamps, etc) and things that the cruiseline gave us (deck plans, playing cards, pencils, postcards). We are doing 15 bags and each bag is going to be less than $4.00 when all is said and done.

I think you should do your welcome letter, any maps, pamphlets or postcards you can find for free, your door hanger, and that would be sweet. If you want to add to that I would do a mint, a packet of pain med (staples has a box of like 20 packets for $5). I’ve seen where this stuff was put in a water bottle from dollar tree or in a plastic treat bag or small paper bag. It can be very simple
