My fiance and I have opted for a destination wedding since we want to keep it intimate. We are heading out there in January for our first (and maybe only) planning trip. I have several resorts we are planning to visit then will narrow it down. Just thought I would post the list here to see if anyone has any input on these locations or additional resorts that perhaps I missed in my searches.
Paradisus (this one may be above budget)
Gran Bahia Principe
Iberostar Grand Bavaro
My list was larger and I was able to knock a few resorts off just by judging the photos I’ve seen that did not impress me or lack of personalization available. I’m looking for a private location for ceremony and dinner for about 35 people. The budget is $12,000 firm for wedding costs (there is a separate budget for the dress and gift bags/favors/save the dates and invites). Our theme is “Once In A While, In The Middle Of An Ordinary Life, Love Gives You A Fairytale” and colors are fuschia and gold.
Another factor which will weigh heavy on our decision is the cost of the rooms for our guests. With any luck we would like to have enough room in the budget to pay for one night (wedding night) in the hotel for all of our guests.
Also, anyone that had a destination wedding – did you choose an adults only resort? We are not inviting any children to the wedding and are hoping to not have a bunch of kids around splashing int he pool etc.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

We had our wedding at the Melia Caribe Tropical and it was a stunning location. Planning our wedding there was very easy and affordable (mind you, it was 5 years ago).
I’d recommend it anytime. We chose it for the perfect balance between luxury and price for the guests. Also, for the 14 restaurants they had and the fact that our package included golf and other activities.
It’s a resort open to children, but it was still quiet and the wedding area was private so we couldn’t see/hear uninvited people (we chose the gazebo instead of the beach because of the privacy it offered, and it’s also less noisy than the beach with the waves and wind. We were also protected from the heat and sun in our wedding attire.. I’d suggest it.)

I went to a wedding at the baha grand principe may 2013. It was awesome! Sorry this is all in a big chunk but I’m just on my phone.. Anyways.. They gave us the standard room options, or upgraded rooms with some special features. Pools were gorgeous with a swim up bar. Wedding was beautiful. took pictures of getting ready all morning. Had an afternoonish wedding. Took some group (I think almost 90 guests) pictures in the lobby which is also absolutely gorgeous with a lovely grand staircase. The photographer they used had some really creative techniques for their pictures. After that they did some bridal party shots around the resort while the guests relaxed. Then dinner in a big hall. Was pretty good. I think they had a decent amount of input into what was served. Then we moved to the beach for cake, speeches and partied ALLLLL night with a wicked cool dance floor set up. Was unreal! The next day we booked a catamaran for the whole group. Which was super cool too. As for the rest of the trip as a guest. I liked the resort a lot. I think I got good value for what I Paid for. There’s a disco which was usually a lot of fun. the staff were awesome and going with such a big group was funny to see them interact with us, always had stuff for us to do and play on the beach and at the pool. Like one day they did a sexiest man competition (our group of friends is really into fitness) and it was absolutely hilarious. The food was good, a couple different options of a la carte like French was really really nice. Italian, steak house and a beach one too. Buffet was nice. The layout was pretty good. Like I said a disco, have late night snack shack of fries, hamburger, hot dogs. There’s a sports bar, a casino, and nightly entertainment like singing competitions and stuff. I had a really great time. Would recomend it for sure! 🙂

Sorry, I haven’t been on here much. I found a Facebook group called Punta Cana Brides and have decided to go off resort with my wedding. You can get so much more personalization and it’s about the same cost.
@rnr2015 I’m staying at Now during my planning trip 1/28-2/3! I hear the resort is great. If you’re planning a beach ceremony there isn’t any privacy. I met someone that was married there and enjoyed it though so it all depends on what’s important to you. If you’d like me to check anything at the resort while I’m there just let me know 🙂
