You definitely need Save-The-Date Cards so people can plan ahead for taking time off (especially if they plan to stay longer), buying plane tickets, and booking hotels. If you are planning to invite the same people to both celebrations I would have one invitation, but include a card for each event. Just note that the second celebration is so you can celebrate with those who can’t make it to Jamaica.

I sent out Save the Dates- necessary in my opinion. I will be sending out a formal invitation (RSVP to our wedding website or by phone), and we will send out a wedding announcement once we get back which will include the info for the party at my FI’s parents house. Of course all this information is also available on our website.

I am having a very small destination wedding in vegas followed by a reception a few months later in my home state. I am sending out an electronic save the date/invite for the vegas celebration. I won’t send out formal invitations for this, there people I speak to on a regular basis and i’ll have the head count (they can RSVP to the site).

i am ONLY sending out an invitation for the reception, which will be much larger.

Don’t know if this helps….but this is just what i am doing!

Check out paperlesspost for fancy e-invitations. We used that for our rehearsal dinner and various other events requiring rsvp’s. It saves a lot of work keeping track of who is coming to what.

Quick question – I am planning a destination wedding in Feb 2012 and a reception in NYC (hometown) some time after…  esp. since most of my friends can’t afford the trip… I’m hoping to send out my Save-The-Date Cards soon, but should I include info on the NYC reception on the STD?

We also have a website where we say there will be a NYC reception… just not sure if I should explicitly say it on the STD…
