Hi there! I live in Wisconsin but we are planning on a Savannah wedding in April 2018. Looking for thoughts or ideas of things that have worked for others. It’s hard planning from so far away. Looking for hotel, ideas for guests, rehersal/welcome dinner thoughts, hair and make-up. Thanks so much for any help!!!!

Oh you have picked a wonderful place to get married! I LOVE Savannah! I’m not sure how many guests you will have but if they are close family you can get very nice rental houses in the historic district for guests to stay at along with hotels on Riverstreet. I would try Vic’s on the River for a welcome dinner if your ok with spending a little money. The fried green tomatoes are amazing! Also (to add a little southern flair) think about adding a trolley rental for your guests to and from your venue! I don’t live there but I have visted enough to know a few places around town 🙂

My brother got married in Savannah as a destination wedding in 2015, and it was a great weekend as a guest, the city was so cool 🙂
For hotels, I’d try to look for a hotel block that’s complimentary (ie: you’re not on the hook financially for filling rooms). My brother and SIL had a block since it’s a destination wedding and they thought it would be needed, but it was really hard for them to fill it because all the guests wanted to stay in AirBnb’s and random boutique/historic hotels instead. There were sooo many adorable AirBnb homes in the historic area of the city! I dutifully booked a room in their block to help them out (as did other members of my family when they learned of the situation) and while the hotel was I would have prefered to choose something else.
One thing that was pretty cool was they reserved a trolley tour for all the guests (historic ghost tour at night) the day before the wedding – so it was a private tour for us via trolley around Savannah. You can bring your own drinks on board, so we had a cooler of beers and it was a really fun time!
