@Pixienickie:  We sent our a year in advance. It was ana email letting peple know the dates and the prices for the trip. It was good to give peple pleanty of notice and we ended up with 67 guests at our wedding which was a excellent turnout!!

I also threw etiquette out the window. I didn’t have Save-the-Dates so I just flat out sent my invitation 1 year in advance to ensure that everyone would have ample time to save and book.

It probably depends on your friends & family, some brides seem to be saying that shorter notice has worked out well for them and people hadn’t booked other holidays ect.  Personally, I think a year or more is best where possible.  It takes a lot of stress (and inadvertantly resentment) out of the decision to come or not.

As soon as we got engaged (about 2 and half months ago) we made a list of people we wanted to invite and casualy rang round to tell them the good news and when we wanted to get married (march/April) Have you booked anything yet because if you haven’t I would make it really clear that the dates are flexible and make sure that people don’t book leave because other wise if your dream venue isn’t available on the exact date you want and yo have to shift the days around it might mean someone can’t be there. I’m really glad I have only just sent out invites because for this exact reason We have had to get married a little sooner than expected.

We sent ours out in December of 2012 and our wedding date is Feb 14, 2014. We had to know our numbers by March first in order to get our date at the resort since it is popular.

We sent ours 10 months in advance. You can’t book flights before about 6 months in advance and we couldn’t do it any faster than 10 months (we have less than a year to plan since we actually picked a venue). Some people have already booked and invites will likely be going out in Jan/Feb for our 6/30 wedding.
