thenickens :  I also wanted 2 dresses then the shop I was in had a convertible dress. It was basically a short, beaded, corseted knee-length dress and a silk skirt went on top. I didn’t tell DH it was convertible, so we went through the ceremony and cocktail hr with the skirt on then during our first dance I took of off the skirt as a surprise. It was awesome. Then I was comfortable in a short dress the rest of the reception. The brand/maker is Martina Liana. But it was about $1600 I believe.

It’s funny this came up because I just watched an episode of My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding and the woman had a detachable skirt on her wedding dress. I thought it was the coolest thing.

Just to add you can totally afford to buy two entirely separate dresses for that budget – there’s quite a few wedding gowns on sale on bhldn:

$400

$550

$550

$80 (!!)

$500

A detachable skirt is the first alternative that comes to mind, but I suggest something a bit different that would even give you great versatility (one romantic look, the other sophisticated):

From Boutique 1861:

at $53.81

at $80.74; worn over the previous dress, it would give you the romantic look. I suggest eliminating the strings.

From Lord & Taylor, at $38.00:

From Zappos, at $80.00:

From Hair Comes the Bride, at $92.00:

or this one, at $44.00:

From Asos, both at $55.00:

thenickens :  yes I have, I ordered all my bridesmaids dresses & flower girl dress from there (to London UK and it arrived in a timely fashion with tracking) and they were beautiful, really nice quality! I have also visited their Chicago boutique (which is in an upscale location and I would consider a luxurious shop) in person and the staff is lovely and the selection is fantastic, I’m a big fan as you can see! 🤗 They will send you colour swatches for free even internationally!
