This is a super long follow up to this post:
Our stuff finally came in Monday afternoon… We got a call right before they got here that we owed $1200 and needed to have it when they got here. I told them that we, in fact, only owed $500 more. He said he would check into and call back. He didn’t call back until he got here, but we got it sorted out and I didn’t have to pay any more.
He then apologized that our washer and dryer were damaged, but he wasn’t sure of the extent because he didn’t load the truck. They started pulling the boxes out and I just cried… they were destroyed… the washer and dryer are damaged beyond repair… and soooo much was missing… I took pictures of everything before I unpacked each box and tried to document everything that I could. While unpacking I realized that the guys who picked up the stuff sliced off the top of the boxes and went through everything… I feel so violated…
I did my final inventory today and we recieved: 9 boxes, one tv, one sofa, one mattress, and washer and dryer. What’s missing: 4 boxes, one tv, entertainment center, coffee table, two end tables, steam cleaner, xlarge vaccuum sealed bag, one fully packed suitcase, and the box spring that matches the mattress. We’re missing more than half of the shipment!!!!!!! The inventory that was taken was not signed by us and we never saw it, but I do have the inventory list the company took when quoting my price. The list from the movers included only the things we recieved. They absolutely stole the things they could sell quick.
In those missing boxes were all of my paintings, hubby’s drawings from college, my mixer, my bread machine, my expensive pillows we recieved as wedding gifts, and an entire box of shoes (over 30 pairs!!). We got the important things, and I keep trying to remind myself of this, but I’m just heartbroken and violated.
We are exploring our legal options and will be filing a claim as soon as possible. I’m here to vent… as you can imagine, everyone has an opinion on what I need to do next as well as what I should have done in the first place and I just can’t deal with all of that right this second. I need to make sure I have an exhaustive list of what is missing before I take my next steps.
This is my wedding china wedged between the washer and dryer, as well as my damaged sofa… this is how our things were loaded on the truck:

You can see where they cut the top off to get into the boxes easily:
