I think you were both wrong in your reaction. We’re both human, we make mistakes, sometimes we react a little over the top. Since I have a worse potty mouth than my husband, I would be the one swearing, not at him, but just more exacerbation about the situation. Of course he should not have told you to never use the oven again, but if I was really fed up, I might have said something similar, and not meant it. I have a short fuse – something I am constantly working on.
I can see the spots in the back, and they actually can be problemental. I had an oven like this too. I did everything I could to get that thing clean. Running the clean cycle on the oven (where it jacks the temperature up to like 600 degrees) made it worse. I looked at You Tube videos, I bought 3 different kinds of toxic oven cleaner. In other words I did everything I could.
I told my husband what I did so that the next time it did smoke he didn’t have a fit, so that is exactly what I would do now that you did really clean it. You also need to make sure you’re using the right size pan so food doesn’t bubble over (so that you’re not making another mess) and you can put some aluminum foil on the lower racks to catch spills as well.
Hopefully this is a thing of the past now. But in my case, we eventually got a new range and over the range microwave (turned out the old one also had poor circulation). I rarely had the smoke alarm go off once the new range was in.
