Cougar09 :  That’s stupid of him.  It IS a Jones family trip.  You all are the Jones family, and your various spouses are now part of the Jones family as well.  I would tell him it’s important to you and that if he can’t suck it up (especially considering the dead dad card!!!!), then you really have a bigger problem at hand.

I’m very sorry about your dad and I hope your family has a really nice healing trip together.

Booze over t-shirts any day.

I don’t think he’s being ridiculous by the way, I’d find it a bit cringey myself, I mean it’s not a big deal or anything but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

He is being childish and in fact I find his response, and anyone defending it, an example of our deeply ingrained patriarchal society. My husband often gets addressed as Mr My-Last-Name and honestly, if he had a problem with that I would not only be offended (what’s wrong with my family?), but would check him on his mysoginism. I suspect if you were going on a family trip with his family and they made up a cute shirt for a giggle this wouldn’t be an “issue”.

Make the shirts up AND buy booze. People can wear them or not. I hope you have a wonderful time with your family celebrating happy memories of your Dad. I’m very sorry for your loss.
