I don’t know whether I should be furious, disappointed, relieved, or terrified. He was driving my car and “zoned out” and ran a red light. He says the car is totaled.
It’s a leased car; the lease technically isn’t up for another year. When he called me at work to tell me this, I just screamed “WHAT?!?” over and over again. I didn’t even ask if he was okay. If he’s okay enough to call me, he’s okay enough for me to kick his ass for crashing my car.
Meanwhile, I’m trying to calm myself down because being all crazy is not going to help anything. I am calming myself down by making various inappropriate jokes at my own expense:
— Honda says I can’t break the lease when we move? TAKE THAT, HONDA!
— This certainly narrows down the choices of which shipping company to use to get my car to Seattle. One of those USPS flat-rate boxes ought to work.
— Awesome, knocked out a few items on the moving to-do list in one go!
— He’s just trying to get out of cleaning out the trunk, which I’ve been asking him to do for months
— Guess I’ll be getting my Cherokee a little earlier than expected!
It’s not working. I’m still going to kill him. I loved that car. It only had 17,000 miles on it. Ninja Civic’s new registration stickers are still sitting up in our apartment, waiting to be put on.

I would have such a hard time not being incredibly FURIOUS if my DH wrecked either of our cars. Good luck?

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry!! That’s awful. But I am glad your DH is okay.

Yikes! Well, the most important thing is that he’s okay.

It’s like, if he had crashed his own car, I’d be like, hey, shit happens. But since it was MY car, I’m having a hard time not taking it as a personal offense. Like he wasn’t being careful with it because it isn’t his.

Ouch…while it really stinks about the car, the accident could have been far worse. So glad he’s ok…

You have such a good sense of humour, don’t lose it! HaHaHa!!
In the meantime, hug your DH (He is okay, no injuries…) and then kick his ass!
He “zoned out”… should he get a brain scan? Is this a medical problem or what? The real question is… should he be driving at all?

I’m sorry, I actually had to laugh at that one. That does suck.. what happens to the lease now? Glad to hear he’s ok though!

Your insurance will take care of it! Glad he is okay!

I think he just gets really deep into his thoughts sometimes, trying to work things out in his head. At least that’s what I hope happened in this case. I’m sincerely hoping this is a wake-up call for him, as I’ve been screaming at him for his driving ever since we met. He needs to take it a lot more seriously! Meanwhile, I’ve been driving for over ten years and don’t have so much as a parking ticket to my record. ARGHHH my insurance is going to SKYROCKET!
I’ll try my best to focus on the fact that he’s okay, and not on the fact that he KILLED MY CAR!!!!!!

I did giggle a little. Keep your chin up, but totally kick his ass. I mean, he’ll feel bad enough, I’m sure, but he deserves it for running a red light and ruining someone else’s day too (assume it wasn’t a one-car wreck).
I’d kill hubs if he wrecked my MINI, even though I want to get a new car. And he’d kill me if I wrecked his M3. He wrecked his own bike and I nearly killed him for wasting that much money and scaring me like that (and ruining MY helmet!).
Good luck getting it all sorted out! At least make him call and deal with the insurance.

Try to look at it this way. It’s not like he woke up this morning and though, “Hmm…I think I’ll total iarebridezilla’s car today. That sounds like fun!” I’m sure he feels pretty awful about it. So while I know it’s so tempting to come down on him, try to take it easy on him. I’m sure he feels like a total jerk.

what did he crash into? another car? if only your car was damaged your insurance won’t go up! (i have used my insurance more times than i like to count and learned this little factoid when my car was vandalized and needed $6k in repairs!)

I should also add that very soon after I got the car, I got some minor front end damage in a hit-and-run in my apartment complex and had been debating endlessly on when to pony up to get it fixed. GUESS I DON’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ANYMORE!

it was another car. ugggghhhhhhhh. he hasn’t called me back since the original call. I think he’s afraid to (unless he’s still on the phone with the insurance)
