aussiemum1248 :  I disagree. You don’t need children to need the assistance of a life insurance policy. Many people wouldn’t be able to handle the expenses of a sudden death or medical bills from an accident leading up to death, etc… A friend’s relative recently passed away and she and some family members pooled money together to take care of the funeral expenses because the surviving spouse didn’t have enough money to do so. Also, my husband and I bought our house with both of our incomes considered. So if something happened to me, the mortgage and bills would still be due and he would be responsible for paying them. So frankly, I wouldn’t want my husband to have to deal with the grief of a loss and also financial stress trying to pay for burial arrangements, possible medical bills, and household expenses.

I would be peeved if my Darling Husband did that, honestly.  And to not discuss it first…  That doesn’t seem considerate.  Your reasons may be valid, but he should be your priority.

This concept is weird to me because my parents would NEVER allow me to do this lol.. The responses are interesting to read!

queennen :

I agree with your husband…I would not be ok with this. You are sharing a life with your husband, not your mother…people don’t have children so they have someone to support them in their old age. I would assume you and your husband are building a life together – buying a house, sharing living expenses, etc…life insurance is supposed to cover your share if something should happen to you.

queennen : I haven’t read anything beyond your OP so sorry if you’ve already touched on this, but are you an only child or do you have a sibling/s?
