prism : smh. OP, glad to hear the update. finger crossed that it’s smooth sailing from here out.
and to the other posters who couldn’t understand the vehement reactions of many bees to OP’s talk of rehoming the cat – this is exactly why people have reacted to strongly. no one was suggesting living with bloody poop for 18 years. people were simply shocked that OP went immediately to “rehoming” the cat rather than taking a few basic steps to try to figure out what is wrong (changing food, doing more tests, etc.) in this case, it seems like a SIMPLE change of diet was all that was necessary (hopefully).

prism : OP, I’m super relieved to read your update. I’m glad your kitty is doing better and that the food is helping him.
I am however also very sad and wondering how many pps dumped their sick animals or had them euthanized for other things that COULD have had similar improvements.

So glad to read your update. I hope your kitty has many happy and healthy years to come.
catskillsinjune : But it wasn’t immediately. She’s been dealing with this for nearly 8 months. In her other post she talked about how she had changed the food 3 times to higher quality, it just wasnt a prescription diet. She went to the vet who ran a fecal test and gave her antibiotics, which didn’t work. She went to a new vet who sounded less than helpful and decided to try the diet first because that made the most sense. She has clearly agonized over this and her good judgment….yes, I said GOOD judgment by deciding to try the prescription food is the reason her cat is now feeling better.
This is a person who was past her limit and also dealing with several outside stressors. Tearing her apart and putting her down was not and is not helpful in any way. Making it sound like her cat got sick two weeks ago and within a week she was ready to throw him out the door is just ridiculous.

Is kitty still doing well?

prism : The cat is ill and you want to rehome it because you won’t spend $700?
My cat had a cough and I spent that on emergency care in the middle of the night.
if I added up all the multiple $700’s I have spent on my kids having emergency illness, broken bones, it would blow your mind.
Get the cat to the vet… and divorce the insensitive husband
