I have been following Weddingbee for almost a year now and finally starting to get into the purchasing phase. This is my first post!! I am in LOVE with OECs, but am noticing not many vendors produce these cuts anymore?
Ive found a few C&C FB in OECs that have been long discontinued from a reputable source. Should I pull the trigger and purchase one of these before they run out completely? or are there vendors who are still producing OEC diamond alternatives? I don’t expect to be officially engaged for at least another year, so I do not mind the wait if theres word on the street that new OEC will be back on the market. I would just hate to hold off and miss an opportunity, but would also hate to settle for an H-colored FB when something better may come out in the near future.
sammy18 : the only place I know of that is selling FB oec moissanite is moissaniteco. The oec Amora gems are out of stock everywhere. Honestly I think the FB oec looks more diamond like than the Amoras do. Having some warmth in an old cut stone makes it look much more authentic than if it were Colorless since real old cut diamonds were mostly lower color grades. I also wanted to mention that the FB oec will not be an H color, more like a J or K color. But like I said I think they look better in those color ranges. If your dead set on going Colorless then maybe look into the Oec Harro gem
I agree with PP, old cuts in warmer tones are just so pretty. But the Harro gem looks interesting! If it were me, I would purchase a C&C stone now in case. I have one in my ering and I love it. I recommend MoissaniteCo. I wish more vendors would offer old cuts!
What about an ACC? Joseph Schubach Jewelers has amazing antique cushion cut moissanites that have the same beautiful chunky facets as an OEC. I bought a Champagne one from them and it is so sparkly and perfect!
JuliaB jewelry on Etsy can do custom old cut mossanite (ACC and OEC). I believe I’ve seen Neo Moissanite in ACC. Schubach’s has some ACCs and there’s a jeweler on instagram that has them too… I’m blanking, anyone know?
sammy18 : I have a 6.5mm fb oec moissanite in my engagement ring. I am philosophically opposed to the diamond industry for several reasons, and I knew I wanted an oec moissanite in my engagement ring.
Point being, I was afraid they would be hard to find and I pulled the trigger and bought one in January. I’m so glad I did. I got one at a reasonable price from Fire and Brilliance. I sat on it for a while, gave it to my fiance in May, and he pulled it out when we went ring shopping about a month ago.
Long story short: I got one and now I have the exact engagement ring I wanted:)
sammy18 : Thanks! I’m excited for you…congratulations! I love the elongated ACC’s. If I were a woman I’d wear the JYB Farrah! Have you decided if you want an elongated culet or a round culet? Read my thread on culet size if you haven’t. I can’t believe what a difference it can make in the optics of the stone.
