Hi bees, I was wondering if anyone could show me pictures of “mismatched” e-rings and wedding rings. My engagement ring has diamonds along the band, and originally I was going to have a matching band made, but we’re running kind of low on funds now, so we’re just going to get a plain white gold band. Has anyone else done this? I haven’t tried on any plain bands yet, so I’m just trying to imagine what it will look like. Do you think it will look weird? I know ultimately it doesn’t matter as long as I like it, but I’ve just been picturing a matching wedding ring for so long :/

I don’t think it will look weird. I think wedding bands have gotten a little out of control the past few years with all the bling. Growing up, I never saw anything but plain wedding bands and thought that was what they were “supposed” to look like. I would just make sure it’s the same metal and a similar width to the engagement ring if you’re worried about them not looking like they belong together.

I’m doing this! My Engagement Ring has diamonds on the band along the top of my finger with some detailing at the sides, so I knew it would be hard to find a diamond band that works well. Plus I didn’t want a massive amount of bling on my finger. My band just came in yesterday too! When I get a chance to try them on together I’ll send you a pic.

I think it will look fine! I don’t think that my rings are exactly what you’re talking about, but I’ll share a pic anyway. My e-ring is flanked with two rows of pave set single cut diamonds and my band is just a plain milgrain band.

I think that as long as the width of each band is comparable or similar, it would look fine. Here is a link to a pic of a diamond Engagement Ring band paired with a plain wedding band:

I’m planning on going the other way — e-ring has a plain platinum band, but I want a wedding ring with diamonds. I’ve tried it on, and I like the look. I think yours will work as well 🙂

Are you thinking about doing it because of the money? We got a really good price on a diamond eternity band from this ebay seller, about $160 (look for the auction items, not buy it now), it is not perfect but I don´t need perfect, high grade diamonds, I rather spend that money on our house : )
I may be getting annoying, but here´s a pic of my rings:

I don’t think it’s a weird look at all! I picked out a pear shaped solitaire for my engagement ring and now I kinda want a diamond band. The opposite of what look you’re thinking about, but I think it looks really cool.

I am going to have a band with diamonds on it and a plain wedding band. I tried it on in the store and I didn’t think it looked weird!
It was good for me because I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. I’m not sure that I’d want both bands to have tons of diamonds, at least not at first. I gotta get used to the engagement ring anyways!

I think the less matchy-matchy the better. I like the idea of having dissimilar rings to make it even more obvious. Like, “Look! I’m wearing TWO rings. I’m MARRIED!! Weeee!” =] Haha.
Anyway…
My ring has stones on the side and I fully intend to have a plain band.
Note: This doesn’t mean that having a matching band doesn’t look super GORG! I just like it old school.

I plan on doing two thin diamond bands on either side of my e-ring, like this photo:
It is my friends ring, but I am sure she wouldn’t mind me posting this.

Totally agree with Goodie! There are going to be days when you are volunteering somewhere in the community, working in the yard, birthing a baby in the hospital, etc. and won’t want a bunch of bling. On those days, you’ll be soooooo glad that you have the plain, solid wedding band to wear alone, without the e-ring. I think it’s a great idea!! Plus, if you decide you really need another diamond band, it can be a perfect anniversary gift. 🙂
