I love moissy and would choose that stone any day over a diamond but you will be sorely disappointed if you are expecting moissanite to perform like a diamond. They are different materials and so, naturally, perform differently.

As other posters have asked, define imperfect. There are many beautiful diamonds that are lower coloured or included but completely eye clean and woderful performers.

There is something out there for everyone and, ultimately, you need to choose what suits you best taking into account budget and your own personal visual preferences. And remember, sometimes it’s more about having a “mind clean” stone so if having a moissanite is going to bother you, go with a diamond whose specs fall within your budget.

I left the decision up to him and love the diamond he picked. It’s odd, but I like knowing something this pretty came from the Earth. It’s imperfect in color only, but I love my J colored stone with fluorescence. Though I’ve never seen moissanite in person. I’m thinking of getting earrings to see what it looks like.

llauren82 :  Depends how imperfect you’re taking! Depends on the budget etc. Beyond a certain level of quality yes I’d certainly choose a moisy.

Mrs.Bill :  just out of curiosity, I don’t know much about moissy, how do they perform differently than a diamond. Could u give me some examples of what you mean please?

cloud9bride :  Moissanite is sparklier than diamond because it is doubly refractive. Also, light moves more slowly through it – the old splintery round brilliant cut enhanced the movement of light and really brougt out the sparkles. Unfortunately, H&A cut moissanite actually underperforms in comparison to a diamond and to regular round brilliant cut moissanite because light moves slowly within the stone and so the stone can look dead in certain lighting environments.

There are cut inconsitencies with moissy and there are no cut standards for this material so it can be difficult to get a good stone. I prefer Forever Brilliant moissy over the new H&A cut because it outperforms diamonds hands down.

The differences are not huge but they are there and, if you know what to look for, you will notice and maybe fester on them. The question is will these differences bother you? Will you be happy with moissanite or do you feel like you’re settling? Moissanite is not for everyone but it is an option for some.

I like natural stones over lab stones, so I’d go for a diamond. My diamond ering is a family piece, but if I hadn’t inherited that I’d have picked a blue-green or mint green sapphire.

Diamond. If i was going simulated, I’d go CZ. Much cheaper & more diamond-like than moissanite, if i understand correctly.

Still. I’d go diamond.

Mrs.Bill :  Wow! Very interesting. Thank you for the info 🙂 My E-Ring is a diamond and I don’t think I would ever waver from that. As far as for my ring that is. Now for other jewelry such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets I would be fine with moissy. But that’s just my personal preference 🙂

Imperfect diamond.

But nothing below SI1, or I’ll just save up for above SI1 (VSI’s better!). Diamond is my birthstone so of course diamond. Although if I want to have something big I’ll go with Aqua just for the colour XD

Imperfect diamond all the way! I’m not keen on lab diamonds because what I love about diamonds and other gem stones is they come from the earth
