I have a half carat ideal princess cut diamond. All that means is that the diamond is cut shallow so that it has more face and appears to be bigger. I have a pair of certified diamond earrings, each earring is a half carat but they are not ideal and my ring looks significanlty bigger!

@Wanderlusty:  Not sure what the difference is BUT I don’t think it means one diamond is more shallow than the other…may I suggest you take a look at some of these princess cut diamonds (called princess of hearts), it is one of the most AMAZING and advanced princess cuts to date, and truly maximizes on the brilliance of a princess cut.

I just know  that the cut makes a big difference in the shine.  The better the cut is the better the light bounces in and around.  I had a very good cut changed to ideal cut and that changed the price of my diamond drastically almost 40% increase.

@Wanderlusty:  Yes, it is a fairly new cut, definitely more advanced than older princess cuts- Goodoldgold is an amazing vendor though- John (the owner) has a ton of youtube videos online comparing diamonds and will make videos for you if you call him..honestly in my opinion a diamond like that is worth saving for, cut is EVERYTHING! They have an I1 rated diamond, but I don’t even see visible inclusions + it is an E color stone–actually you can probably go lower on the color scale if you wanted to with these diamonds bc the cut makes up for any warmth the diamond may show.

Cut is the most important thing for how a diamond sparkles.  Every place has their own way of sorting through ‘ideal’ diamonds for the best, slapping on their own name (signature ideal, hearts on fire, Leo), and charging you more for it.  You can find your own if you know what to look for, though.  Do some research (sorry I can’t help with a princess, mine is round) and you should be able to find what angles make the best diamonds.
