@RayKay: I should have explained more. I wasn’t so much referencing inclusions when I mentioned imperfections but rather assymetry in cuts. They’re all cut the same, respective to their brands. I’m addicted to cushions and I love that one cushion can look vastly different from the next. But lab grown gems in the cushion cut tend to look exactly the same with the exact same cut style, almost like they’re trying to immitate the identical look of brilliants. That’s not my thing. So I’d still go diamond for that bit of randomness and assymetry.

Moissanite was never an option for us. In all honesty, there was no option other than diamond.

@claireos: Ah, got it. You mean from one stone to the next, as in how most cushions vary from one to another and you need to really see a cushion to decide if you like it rather than just go by the numbers. Understood!

My e-ring has a 1/2 carat diamond, surrounded by pave diamonds in a halo and along the arms of the setting. I love it, but I have also wondered about switching it out for moissy. I’m a grad student and my Fiance works fulltime at sbux and is going to culinary school, so we don’t have that much money… I really want a bigger/nicer quality diamond but I know we cannot afford it so I’m starting to look into moissy – they’re so sparkly! – but I don’t think he really wants me to do that (he says he will find a way to pay for the better diamond if that’s what I want, but that seems ridiculous to me)
Anyone have a moissy surrounded by pave diamonds? Do they look weird in contrast with eachother?

@loving_life: I think that would look great. If you show your Fiance some examples and all the research he may change his mind. That’s what happened with my SO. I’m getting a moissanite as an upgrade after I lost my original ring. We had the funds for a diamond the same size, but it just didn’t make sense to me. It took a little convincing, but he came around. I’m not getting a halo, but my setting will have tons of pave diamonds. It’s being custom made now, so I haven’t been able to compare the colors specifically. However, I have set my 3ct moissy in a similar setting and there was no contrast between it and the pave diamonds. Also, I’ve compared it to diamonds of about the same size and color (2.5-3ct and H-J color), and I can’t tell the difference. I think this would be a great option for you!

@Loving life My setting is not exactly what you are after…but my sidestones ARE natural diamonds and I think they look great. When I tell people that my center is a moissy, no one can believe it!! It looks great next to the diamonds!
My moissy does not look that cloudy in person…but I think this gives you an idea. My sidestones are G quality.

1. Diamonds are forever!!
2. Diamonds are a girls best friend
3. Does no one have insurance on their rings…I read at least 2 posts that people said they lost their rings and replaced it with a Moissy…WTF…cash in on that policy…thats why you have it!! If you own a home and have insurance you should have at least $5000 automatically covered for jewellery…if not its cheap to buy an extension policy…mine is $250/year…GET INSURANCE!

@getting_hitched: I lost my rings and I did have insurance. However, I wanted a larger center stone than what I originally had. Therefore, I was left with two options:
1.) I could pay the difference between what my insurance would pay for the replacement cost of my lost set and the cost of the larger one.
2.) I could get a moissanite for a center stone in the same upgraded size I wanted with a very intricate custom setting for the amount the insurance would cover.
So, I did cash in on the full amount of my policy by getting a moissanite. We had the money to pay the difference for a diamond in the upgraded size I wanted, but that seemed like a huge waste of money IMO. Once my setting is finished, I’ll have the size center stone I wanted without having to pay extra past what the insurance would cover.

@obsessivebee posts pics when it comes in!

If I didn’t have a diamond, I would get a different natural stone. Part of what’s special about the diamond is that it came from the earth. Of course, harvested and cut by man but the earth created it and I think that’s romantic. And more so than other stones, it catches light! It’s a happy stone 🙂

If I didn’t have a diamond, I’d want a sapphire before another white/clear stone. If I’m going sparkly and white, I’d like a diamond.

If I couldnt have my diamond I would opt for a smaller diamond or wait (like I did) until we could afford what I wanted.
For me personally there aren’t any other suitable alternatives.

If I didn’t have my diamond I would love to have a OEC moissy..they are lovely and IMO look the most diamond like compared to other cuts

Absolutely! But by the time I discovered moissanite on here I was already engaged and had been ring hunting for awhile! I would’ve def regretted my diamond if it hadnt been around the same price as a moissy although much smaller. Also my dh is very pro diamond and anything but diamond is a cheap sim. I hate how people have that mind set because moissys are really beautiful! I really want to move my diamond over to a rhr and replace it with a 1.25 Ct oec moissanite but my husband won’t hear of it & he’d be pissed if I went off and did it on my own. Sigh. But if we hadn’t found my ring (cheap on the classifieds)& I would’ve learned of it sooner I would’ve def pushed for an oec halo moissy!

ha if I had the option to cash in on insurance i would replace with a moissy and keep the leftover money. and who says moissy can’t be a girls bestfriend?
