If it faces up so much smaller for the weight, it’s probably a steep cut, which would mean it’s not reflecting light optimally anyway. You should demand a better one. Is it too late to completely return? You could do much better with some help from the people at Pricescope.

patchy :  This right here.

Sometimes a diamond is cut so that the weight ends up not being reflected in the visual spread of the stone. Sounds like that’s what you have run into. Definitely let the members over at Pricescope help you out if you want to exchange.

If you want easy perfect diamonds, I’d recommend HPDiamonds. They only sell “crafted by infinity” diamonds, which are cut to superideal standards. There’s also whiteflash which has ‘a cut above’ or ‘expert select’, which are both very well cut diamonds.

If you can’t return and can only exchange, do have the people at pricescope help you find a winner on blue nile!

hnblomquist :  Just be thankful you’re able to exchange. I see stories fairly frequently over on Pricescope of folks that have either waited too late, bought from somewhere with no return/exchange policy, etc. Blue Nile is a fair company and I think you’ll be able to find something that will make you happy. Be sure to come back and update when you do!

One thing I’m confused about, how is it a triple ex cut and facing up small?

Like other posters have mentioned, make sure the cut proportions are ideal.

Well sadly ideal cuts are not always ideal anymore. Apparently more less ideal diamonds have been slipping the cracks. I agree you will want to pop over to PS and let them help you. I have been there over a decade including my lurking and they do a great job with that. Hopefully you will find a lovely diamond that does give you the coverage you want!

hnblomquist :  not picky at all! They cost a lot and it should make you feel giddy when you look at it.

I have a fantastically cut diamond and in my opinion, it looks bigger than it’s .83 ct.

Cut is definitely the most important C.
