OK ladies here’s my dilemma. My Fiance has a bridal set on layaway at Jared’s. It’s just over 3K and between paying for the wedding and the set I convinced him it was best to go the layaway route. Here’s the thing. I’ve been wearing a stunt set from berricle and no one, I mean NO ONE can tell that it’s not the real deal. Well it got me thinking, why spend the 3K, right? I know I was a huge fan of diamonds and still am. But at the end of the day it just doesn’t matter to me. When I consider the amount of money and EVERYTHING we have to pay for from the wedding, to the condo/house we are buying in 2014, to becoming TTC that same year. It just makes me feel a little selfish and shallow to spend that much on myself. Just to avoid drama I’m talking about my own feelings and am not projecting this on anyone else. Please note: Do not turn this into me calling other ladies shallow and/or selfish when I’m talking about me.
Well so this convinced me that I might as well just wear my stunt set as my actual set. Well that didn’t go over too well with the Fiance who wanted to buy something that he could be proud of me wearing. So I’ve seen so many of you ladies post asha rings that are just beautiful, especially hesperfect4me and made me realize that maybe a diamond setting with a asha center would float with him. He’s not crazy about it but he’s in agreement since at anytime he can surprise me with a real cushion diamond 1.5ct . We could get it now once I make a final decision and be done with it and on to bigger things.
For comparison here’s my princess halo/quad set from jared’s
Here’s the Asha cushion halo center with 0.39-0.45 ct, SI, G quailty stones around it. I would get a 1.5 ct for a 1/3 of the price of the jared set. What do you think?

I think if it’s not a big deal to you I would go with the asha and save the money. You seem like me… you can always upgrade later.

I prefer the look of the asha ring over the quad. It’s up to you if you would feel comfotable wearing a cubic zerconia ring. If you would not sweat it, than go for that one.
I would really consider finding a diamond ring with a solid, singular center stone. Maybe you should check out antique stores or pawn shops.
I feel like my engagement ring could never be replaced or upgraded bc of sentimental reasons. So if I were you, I would get what I really wanted now. There will always be houses, cars, and kids to pay for in the future, so you may never be able to reason spending the money on yourself.

@bridalprincess: Yes, I love the idea of upgrading later which was always the original plan.
@Milk and Honey: Which is way if I do go with the jared set I’d get the quad bc I like the idea of having upgrades of my original ring.
This way he can replace my center stone and upgrade my wedding band to an eternity ring. But if I don’t get the jared set I might just have him get me an eternity band right before the wedding.

I would get the asha over the quad 🙂

They’re both beautiful, but I like the asha best.

I personally cannot stand cluster rings. To me, that’s no less “fake” than CZ because you’re trying to fake the appearance of a larger stone. I’d save the money and go with the Asha, and upgrade later.

Like others, I strongly dislike quad/cluster rings. I say go with the asha. Lots of women have them and love them!

As someone who is wearing a gorgeous 1.5 ct cushion cut Asha right now, I say GO FOR THE ASHA! You will not be disappointed!

I actually prefer the asha cut. I like your thinking and think its nice that you’re considering all the other financial obstacles you and Fiance are facing. Like others mentioned above, you could always upgrade later.

Only you can decide whether or not you’d feel comfortable wearing a sim for your wedding set, so if you’re OK with it then that’s the route I’d go. Me personally, I’d rather have a real diamond or gemstone set…but that’s just me.
Once you buy a house and start having kids, trust me, it will be a long time before you feel like you have the money to spend on yourself. Houses and kids are so much more expensive than you can ever imagine!

I love cushions and have a 1.5ct myself, so of course I love the look of the Asha you have picked out. However, I voted for the Jared set because if it is important to your Fiance that he buy something with diamonds in the center then I would let him go that route. Personally, I wanted to buy a “forever ring” because the idea of not wearing what he proposed to me with for the rest of my life made me a little sad. If you don’t feel the same way, though, then I say go with the Asha and get the diamond later!

I’d pick the Asha, or the same setting with a moissy. I’m not a fan of quad settings, plus they’re prone to losing diamonds. It’ll only be a matter of time before you’ll have to repair that thing.
