Why not an oval lab diamond? It’s the exact same composition as a mined diamond, but grown in a lab. They’re more cost efficient, not as pricey as a mined diamond, but not as inexpensive as a moissanite. And they are ethically and environmentally conscious.

I had a C&C F1 oval that we returned. I just didn’t love it. Luckily I found a Brilliant Earth lab grown diamond engagement ring and wedding band on eBay that was cheaper than the new moissanite ring!

If you’re so worried about it looking like a diamond then that leads me to believe you probably want a diamond deep down and will be happier with nothing less. If that’s the case, can you get a smaller high quality stone right now and upgrade in the future?

also as PPs have said, lab diamonds are totally an option too. Best of luck deciding, I’m sure whatever you choose will be lovely

sarahnicole320 :  Hmm…what is your budget? Helzberg and other mall stores are rather overpriced relative to the quality.

sarahnicole320 :  If you want a diamond, go with a diamond. If you truly dont care, go with a moissanite.

Why spend the money if you have no preference? But as other Bees have said on other threads, they had their hearts set on diamonds and couldn’t get over the moissanite.

Flip a coin after you’ve assigned heads or tails. If you’re disappointed with the result, go with the opposite.

2020bride20 :  this. Most people will not be rude enough to to directly question someone’s stone  (especially an engagement ring) but that does *not* mean they don’t notice it’s not a diamond…

slyfox4 :  saying it’s “fake” is a little hurtful  but moissanite is unquestionably a diamond simulant. I think that’s what she meant by fake. Moissy is a man designed gem, (silicon carbide is only a trace sized green mineral,  it appears nothing like what is created for jewelry).  Another man designed gemstone is cz.  NOT saying cz and moissanite are the same,  just both are examples of created/engineered gemstones (and both are diamond simulants)

OP, you’re hoping to be able to pass off a moissanite as a diamond,  but know that it won’t.  No one will likely say it to you but there will be those who know.  They may think it’s a cz. Larger ovals are especially obvious. If you’re really ok with that than go for it. Given what you’ve shared I would advise to go preloved with a smaller genuine diamond or save a bit longer for a larger lab created diamond.  If you do decide to go with moissanite, look around,  it can be had fairly cheaply especially from China. Good luck.  Hope to see a pic from you soon.

We chose a moissanite because we can’t afford a diamond. A lot of people recommended financing a diamond – I could never imagine putting myself in debt for a piece of jewelry. On top of that, I did some of my own research on diamonds and felt more secure than ever in my decision to go with moissanite. I have a 1 Ct DEW soltaire by Charles and Colvard F1 line and I love it. My ring sparkles like mad and in certain lights it shoots rainbows like a disco ball. If you don’t care about it not being a diamond, I say go with moissanite! My wedding band is also moissanite! Good luck, hon!

I have a .5 carat diamond ring that I absolutely adore. It is my most prized possession along with my matching wedding band. It took my husband a while to save up even to get something small but he was super proud of how hard he worked to get a real diamond. It didn’t matter to me at all either but I don’t think having a small diamond is bad if you were worried at all about that! Even at a .5 carat my diamond is plenty big enough.
