@newname_99:  Thought I’d reply to you…  I live in Mexico to.  And I wear mine wherever.  If I don’t feel I should wear it for whatever reason then I don’t.  That said if someone did want it I would hand it over.  Contary to what most people believe, most Mexicans I find are not interested in what I wear or don’t wear.  They are simply not interested nor impressed.

Side note:  newname – f you ever want to talk newname private message me.  We can trade Mexico stories.Wink

I had this same concern when i was shopping for an ering. I live in a big city and often take public transit. I’m afraid to take my iphone out at times. My coworker recently had her phone snatched right out of her hands! I knew I didn’t want to attract attention with my jewelry nor did I even want a diamond. (I wonder if thieves know the poor resale value of diamonds?) Anyway, I have a sapphire ring which I doubt will attract the attention of theives so I never worry when I’m out in public.

@BrideofChrist:  I don’t really worry about it a whole bunch- my ring is a healthy size, but it’s not OMGBLINGTASTICINYOURFACESPARKLE either. And it’s not my most expensive piece of jewelry. We are going to get my ring insured, obviously. And I don’t hang out in sketchy places or go out after dark alone because I don’t believe you can be too careful with something like that. And if I did get mugged I’d hand it right over. My fiance would rather have me give up my ring to someone trying to assault me than have them harm me.

I mentioned fear of getting mugged for my ring to my Fiance and he laughed. He told me that diamonds are totally worthless. Apparently they aren’t rare at all and the only reason they are so expensive is because most countries refuse to buy diamonds from all but a few vetted companies that artificially inflate their prices (as outside diamond producers often traffic in drugs and arms and most people will not do business with these sorts of organizations).

Fiance told me that if someone stole my ring then they wouldn’t even be able to resell it because they aren’t an authorized diamond dealer. He said if you’re a criminal you probably have a good idea of what’s worth reselling and what’s not and that you’d have to be a raging idiot to steal diamond jewelry.

I could see, however, how an expensive looking ring might make you look wealthy and thus help you become a target of crime that way.
