Hello Bees,
I need some advice. My Boyfriend and I have been talking about getting engaged and he’s taken me to the jewelery store already.
We’ve narrowed it down to a few rings and now he keeps asking me which one I want. I can’t decide between a simple round-cut diamond solitare ring or an oval cut sapphire with little diamond accents down the band on both. Both are set in white gold bands. (platinum could be done too).
My boyfriend personally likes the sapphire, but I still can’t decide which one I want. I’ve always thought diamonds were pretty and it’s nice that they go with any outfit but I like the idea of a sapphire as well since they are unique, pretty in color, and I want the ring to remind me of him every time I look at it; thus I want the ring that he likes too. He also got me a blue topaz necklace for our 2 year anniversary that I wear everywhere, so a sapphire would match.
In addition, I also want something that will last for a lifetime. I am studying to be a veterinarian and I often wear gloves thus I can’t have anything too big. I’m also right handed so having the ring shouldn’t be too much of a problem (unless I’m in surgery which I would take it off for then obviously).
Sorry I don’t have any pictures of the rings but hopefully I gave you a good description. But my main question is, are there any other bees out there who have gemstone (and/or sapphire) engagement rings and if so are you happy with your decision? I know I’m the only one who could decide this but I’m curious to see what others have. Thanks for reading!!

Ask for this post to be moved to the Rings forum! π
I’d let your boyfriend surprise you if you like both of the options remaining!

@lunalyra: Thank you. Yes I just noticed that there’s a rings thread after I posted this haha. I’ll see about getting it moved – still learning to use the site lol. But yeah that’s kind of how I feel about it too, just have him surprise me.

@Owl_Doctor: Get a sapphire with diamond accents!! Do a search for gemstone rings, or check the ring boards, you’ll find a bunch of threads with all the gorgeous gemstone rings some of the Bees have!
here are some to get you started:

My ring is currently in production, and I’m getting a purple sapphire with diamond accents. And this decision was actually made because SO isn’t really a fan of diamonds, so I’m in a similar situation that you are.
I think colored e-rings are gorgeous!

I love my sapphire and have never regretted not getting a diamond. It honestly depends on your tastes, how each one looks on your hand, etc. Diamonds and sapphires are both beautiful, so in the end pick the one that just feels “right”.

Sapphire but I’m partial. I have a purple color change sapphire with diamonds.

Wow thanks for all of the replies everyone! And for sharing all of your gorgeous rings! π I appreciate the advice. I think I am going to let him surprise me and have him pick it out. Maybe one more trip to the jewelery store next week to help finalize my decision and then give him an answer π

But at this point I am leaning towards the Sapphire ring π
