I was curious… I’m looking for a ring for my soon to be FI!
She has a size 8.5 finger. I’ve been talking to a few jewlers and I’ve got conflicting advise about diamond son the band.
I am getting a halo with a round diamond, I originally thought that putting the diamonds on the band would look nice and that my Fiance would like it!
Some jewlers said that it would be better to have no diamonds on the band for bigger fingers so that it would bring more attention to the centre diamond.
If anyone has any pictures to reference that would be fantastic but just advise would be great!

Halo, but no diamonds on the band? I’ve seen some like these, and some bees love it. Personally, with my halo, I would like the diamonds.
How big is the band? (2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm….)

People tend to feel so strongly about these things – has she ever expressed her own opinion either way? Any chance you could walk her through the mall past a jewelry store and nonchalantly point out one of each and see which she likes better? Personal preference is everything!

If your girl is a magpie and loves all things shiny and sparkly then yes. If not, no, easy answer 🙂

Depends on how thick the band is and how the stones are set. If it is a thin band, I say go for it.

I’m in the camp of have simple platinum setting and put budget into best diamond.
Plus small diamonds require maintainance/replacing over the years.
But…do you have any inkling of your FIs ring style preferences?

I personally prefer diamonds on the band. I didn’t care for the way the plain shank halo looked on me, but there are a lot of people that love that look.
If your budget is limited, then I would put the majority of it toward the center diamond. You may consider proposing with the diamond in a temporary setting and letting your Fiance decide on the setting. Some women have very strong opinions on what they want. I would check with her family or friends to see if she has any preferences. If she said she doesn’t care and wants you to pick it out, then I think a plain shank halo is fine.

Diamonds on the band can definitely add more brilliance to the finger, but if the bride likes simplicity, probably just go for bold band with nice cut diamond.

I have no idea her finger size at all, but I like how blinged out her ring is, and the diamonds on the band. I definitely think it doesn’t detract from the center stone.

I personally am not a fan of halo rings with plain bands. I think the diamonds on the side complete the look and design of the ring.

1.) MOST people prefer the united look of adding pave to the shank if you’re going to have a halo. It is a very specific (and not universally loved) look to have a plain shank against a halo.
2.) We really can’t know what you should do without knowing the size of the center stone, the size halo you are planning, and the mm width of the shank you are planning.
3.) As for “detracting from the center stone,” not every girl is obsessed with highlighting the center stone. Many women prefer the overall look to be balanced, or like to work the “center” stone into a more intricate over-all design (as in a lot of vintage settings.) We don’t know which type of girl your girlfriend is, and neither do these jewelers.
