I know that being plus sized and pregnant can have some pretty negative effects on you if you were to become pregnant. As a plus sized woman I would also be scared to gain so much weight when I am already overweight. So bees, did any of you lose weight prior to TTC so that your risks were lower?

I am not necessarily plus size, but I did just have a miscarriage. I am planning on loosing some of the weight I put on this last year (15 lbs) while I am waiting to TTC again. We have to wait until I have a period so that gives us a couple months. I just want to really be as healthy as I can be going into it again.

@Tswife4ever: I’m not pregnant, but am in the plus size category at size 14. My doctor told me to focus on a workout routine, not necessarily weight loss as I gained some and far from my ideal BMI. She wanted me to keep trying and not focus on losing weight to put off TTC. If it means, I have to work out more, that’s what I’m doing. From what I understand about plus size pregnancies, you gain very little weight in the process because your weight is already high. I’ve heard that they like to keep you at a certain weight and gain little while growing a baby.

@Tswife4ever: I’m currently working on losing the 20 lbs. I gained after the wedding. Yes, I gained 20, in only a few months! We’re going to start TTC sometime in the next six months or so. People have told me you want to be in the best shape before getting pregnant, so I’m starting now! That, and I’m sick about the weight I’ve gained and want it gone!

@BlueEyes- I gained 20 as well. I got married in August and my December 2010 I was up 20 pounds, look what marriage does hehe!
My doctor suggested that I get down to a previous weight so I would be in the normal BMI range, but mostly she just suggested a healthier lifesytle. You will need to eat well when you are pregnant so why not start now. I have cut out alcohol and am trying to eat plenty more fruits and vegetable and I’m not just dropping pounds but making my body healthier.

I gained a lot of weight when I went off of BC. I think it’s from PCOS (that I was recently diagnosed with). I have been working really hard to try to lose it (we are in the process of TTC), and have lost 15 lbs. so far. I am just trying to eat as healthy as possible and exercise (I was also put on Metformin which has made it easier for me to lose the weight).
I have a few plus sized friends who had great pregnancies. They actually didn’t gain a whole lot of weight, and just really focused on eating healthy while pregnant.

@roxy821: Glad I’m not the only one! “You will need to eat well when you are pregnant so why not start now.” That’s a good way to look at it! Why not get in the habit of eating healthier now?
@Sunshine1810: I recently stopped taking BC and am hoping I don’t end up gaining also. Good for you for losing 15 lbs!

Personally I would like to be at my ideal weight before TTC (which is only 4 lbs away, hooray!) because I don’t like the idea of gaining baby weight on top of already being heavier than I was comfortable meanwhile not being able to really diet or excersize.

Absolutely. I’d like to lose at least 25-30lbs. I’m also interested in simply getting healthier as a lifestyle not just for TTC purposes or looks.

my sister did not lose weight before her first pregnancy and she also gained a lot of weight. now she is trying to lose weight before she tries again for a second baby.

@Blue Eyes: Thanks! :o) Honestly, I did not expect to gain weight going off BC (who does right? I mean most people gain when they go on it). I had no clue what was going on. I am getting it straightened out now though. It was frustrating though because I was exercising and dieting like crazy and could not lose it. Then I got put on Metformin and lost the first 7 pounds within a month, it was crazy. Just make sure you watch the scale. Honestly, I didn’t know what was going on and I didn’t talk to my doctor much about my weight gain because I was embarassed, I shouldn’t have let it slide as long as I did.

Yeah, I’m hoping to have a flatter stomach by the time we TTC so that I can see the littlest baby bump. I would *like* to lose 70 pounds but I really only need to lose 40. Still a lot, but I’ve already lost 15 pounds.

- Wedding: June 2011 - Sydney, Australia
I’m trying, to a) feel healthier, b) help control my PCOS (which is a two edged sword: I should lose weight to try and help the hormone imbalance, but the hormone imbalance makes it really hard to lose weight!) and c) because we’re TTC anyway, I have the time to do it.
It’s hard work, but I hope it’ll pay off!
